hi all,

went to see a company today about having my wheels refurb, well powder coating. theyve got some marks in the wheels.they said that they will come out when they get blasted.

i got quoted £30 a wheel, is that a good price and has anyone had theres powder coated??

also they said its only a few days to do them too

was thinking about having them grey as my vrs is silver.

Mine cost £20 a corner and that was by a friend of a friend, so for a company thats a decent price you can pay 40-50 a wheel some of the places i looked at before i had mine done

Anyone know anywhere in the SE (Kent) that will do it for these sort of prices? I've been quoted £70 (per wheel) and above for any sort of refurb.

Yeah, it's a pretty good price. Depends how many layers they will do and how well they will prep any deep scratches though.... and also whether they will take the time to do a good quality finish. If they have a good rep then it sounds like a winner.

Wow, I thought re-furbs were much more than this. My car came with an invoice for a £360 re-furb! £90 per wheel!

meant to add - these are split rims if that makes any difference - and were done in Essex originally.

£55 per wheel with any colour finish at Lepsons in Gillingham for any 15' to 18' (non chrome) rim

Was down here today to drop my alloys off. The refurbed rims I saw looked very good.

Ive had a couple of sets done by them now and ive always been very happy with the service and finish. You wont be dissappointed mate!

You need to be careful when comparing prices. If all they do is shot-blast the wheels and apply a thick layer of powdercoat then the corrosion will come back and the powdercoat will come off in chunks like thick shiny paper. You will also not get a particularly good finish if the wheels were originally heavily corroded.

Lepsons (where I have to admit I get mine done) shot-blast the wheels, acid dip them to eat away any remaining corrosion and paint, apply a coat of powdercoat as a primer, polish that smooth then spray-paint them in the correct original factory colour or any other colour you like. They also stand by their guarantee if the process or finish isn't 100%.

That's why some folks can do it for £80 and some want £250.

Also really worth asking questions about the type of service. Some quote for bare wheels only. Others will take the entire car, valet it and return it washed and with "new" wheels. Somewhere in the middle they'll take wheels with the tyres still on and remove/refit the tyres.
