Odometer and current time stay on when car locked?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone!

I'm new here, bought the wife a bright yellow vRS yesterday (2002) and we both love it!!

One thing that's bothering me is that the odometer stays on when the car is switched off and the car is locked up? Is this normal?

The time also stays on - but during the car running, it shows outside temp. When car is switched off and locked, it switches to time.

Also I noticed the radio can be switched on without the ignition key being in. - Similarly there is still power in the cigarette lighter.

Is this all normal? Or do I need to find out what's happening before we get a flat battery??

Cheers

Tris

That's all normal mate, don't worry about it.

Last night I got the spare key working - it was a simple battery change, but hey all the info was here. Superb!

If you are worried about forgetting to switch of the radio you can always rewire it so its switched of when the key is removed.Ive wired mine that way.

That's normal BUT on the end of the right hand (wiper) stalk is a rocking button which cycles through changes on the display - so pressing it will cycle from O/S temp to clock, to miles left in petrol tank, current fuel consumption, average consumption etc. etc.

I've found that multi button and set it to all the different displays. Whatever I leave it on when running, it goes to time when I switch off. When I turn back on, it goes back to showing outside temp.

Oh, and I love this car. Gutted that it's the wife's..... :S

Mine does that anyway

Mmmm, sure mine returns to what ever I left mine one, it starts back up displaying (when the ignition is off it displays the time). It will default to showing the outside temp at startup if it is cold (below either 5 or 3 degrees, and possibly put a snowflake symbol up on the dash). Also when driving if the temp drops it will do the same.....

That's what is was then. Nice one.

The temp never got above 3 today.

Cheers !!

the radio should go off when you remove the key. you can switch it back on with the key out and it should stay on for 1 hour then go off.. if its the std radio anyway

Hmm,

It's the standard radio - yes.

But the radio stays on when I take the key out - do I have an issue here?

Something does not sound quite right. I have a Pioneer HU, and that stays on until I take the key out of the ignition (turning the ignition off leaves the radio on). Almost sounds like someone has wired the ignition sense wire to +12v perm

Mine only switches to temp when it is below 7 outside, otherwise its my chosen screen.

but in terms of the dasboard Odometer and time - they stay on all the time right ? Regardless of locking the car and leaving it overnight??

Tris

Yeah, the dash will display time and odometer when the igntion is off, locked or not.

Also, like someone said, it will display the temperature when you put the ignition on if it's under 7 ish degrees. If you press either rocker switch on the stalk, it will go back to what it was on last.

The radio should come on with the igntion and go off when you physically remove the key. You can turn it on when the key is out and it will stay on for about an hour.
