Now I've Done It . . . .

Didn't want to hijack a similar thread, so here goes.

No test drives. No face to face haggling. No trade in. Web browsing and Skoda configuration tool. Plus the CZ web brochures show several different pictures. Just a few eMails and phone calls and the car was ordered this evening. I have decide to walk away from company lease scheme when current car expires as decent cars are becoming very expensive. I wanted more space and lots of mod cons and hopefully this will be a longer term keeper.

Just wish I needed one in 2010 when the VAT free offer was on :'(

Anyway, decided to buy one north of the border even though a dealer in the deep south offered a cheaper price. Support your local - - - - - - - - - and all that; plus the convenience of popping in nearer home.

Superb Estate SE 170 DSG, Rosso metallic, most of the extras BUT NO Sunroof, NO SatNav, NO Xenons (do you know what a broken Xenon costs :o ), NO Leather, NO Power Boot Lid, NO Auto-wipers

Is this the first 61 plate on this forum? Will actually be on a personal plate. Anyone know if Skoda pre-drill the bumpers for plates or will I be able to stick on my short plates?

Job done

It will be an 11 plate unless you are waiting til September....Did you try Drive the Deal?

Should have got the xenons, they are fantastic, well worth the extra!!

Got to agree with that - bulbs are not that expensive really.

The Superb was never VAT free as far as i was aware.... :x

Al.

sounds like something i use to do when i went banger racing many years ago. why buy a new car with most of the good bits missing.

See the light.....get the xenons.

It's not the price of a bulb. A hairline crack in the Volvo Xenon lamp unit let water in and the WHOLE lamp unit was replaced at vast expense.

Luckily I wasn't footing that particular bill. If it was mine I would have araldited the crack.

Much as I like my current Xenon's, I honestly cannot justify going completely OTT on an SE that is not going to be serviced at someone else's expense.

Horrified that lead time is now seven months. Not surprisingly think your choice of colour and spec is good. I also ordered without test drive etc- "local" dealers just north of Forth bridge were not particularly helpful and couldnt source a Superb for me to test drive, despite having a 59 plate on the forecourt. They will NOT be getting my business for servicing and for replacing my wife and daughters cars

Interesting comments from others re your spec- dont suppose you placed the order on a whim especially as you say you ckecked the Skoda Auto site among others. Stick with your spec which will be right for youemoticon-0148-yes.gif .

Strictly speaking the lead time is not officially 7 months. But I'd read horror stories about long lead times for diesels, with a risk of it getting worse, but the key point for me is the expiry of my present lease car at end August. Hence a decision in near future about what car next, so delivery on 1 September is at my request. It better be on time.

The order was not placed on a whim; a lot of thought and calculation went into whether I continue with a company backed lease scheme that gets dearer each year vs. personally buying a long term car with a specification of my choice. And I fancied something different. I've bought a lot of things on spec. - without a test drive.

Going slightly off topic but does concern light problem mentioned.

There are genuine Skoda lens protectors, for the Superb, not sure if they might alter the light output by going through another acrilic lens.

Having had three windscreens replaced in two years was thinking of getting a set. Has anyone got these?

Popped into Specialist cars newly opened Skoda dealership in Dundee this afternoon and they have two new Superbs in the showroom, one hatch, Rosso red 170cr dsg elegance , and a metallic black diesel elegance estate, both waiting to be snapped up by some lucky (and impatient buyer)... (Also had a few new Yeti's).

Something tells me that they will sell quite quickly.................

Received my copy of the order today. Gonna be a long summer for a 61 plate - my choice.

170 TDI DSG Estate SE, Rosso Brunello, Callistos, Wheel + Paddles, Dimming Mirror, Hot Seats, Hot Screen, Hot Washers, Lamp Washers, KESSY, MDI, Blinds, Boot Floor, Boot Nets, TPM, Spare Wheel, Shelf DooDah, Rear Air Bags, Parking Attendant, Blinds, Tints, Flaps + Mats.

Why not an Elegance? Just don't need / want Leather, SatNav, Telephone gear, Xenons, 18s, but wanted all the above.

Looking forward to enjoying it for several years.

May find a new hobby doing weddings and airport runs :giggle:

Lovely spec

I'd be interested in dealer experiences in the area too

Nice choice of colour- should be a cracking car.
