Sticking Calipers?

Featured Replies

Hi,

is there a general problem with sticking rear brake calipers on Octavias? I have an slx estate that has not been working too well in the brake department for a while and the dealer has "cleaned" the brakes twice without any real effect.

I had a golf last which seemed to have a history of sticking calipers (I changed both rears)....anyone else had any problems?

Welcome to Briskoda, mih. I haven't had any problems with mine but with less than 6000 miles on the clock in 15 months I wouldn't have expected any. Your problem is not unheard of and hopefully someone will provide useful feedback for you.

Yes, I seem to have the same problem. My 1.8T SLX (march2000) right rear disk brake seems to stick, I can hear it when I take a sharp turn going very slow or when braking and coming almost to a halt. I had that wheel off the ground on a jack once and felt more resistance in turning that wheel than with the others. SO it doesn't help much by cleaning the runners of the calipers?

No problems with mine, although I must point out that mine are not standard and with the amount mine gets usedthey probably on't get a chance to stick

Can't say I've noticed any problem (1.8T Elegance hatch, about 22000 miles on the clock). Being an automatic, though, it's probably a bit heavier on brakes than a manual, so they get less opportunity to stick.

BTW, welcome to Briskoda

I had a similar problem on my Octavia (2.0 Ambiente July 01), where I would hear a sqeek at low speed, it was due to the rear brake caliper sticking/needing adjusting. The dealer fixed it under warranty.
