PD 160 INTAKE! RIP OFF!

Featured Replies

I've had a price for the pd 160 pipe - 79.99

Is it me or are they taking the peeeeeeee!!!

I've seen one go for 80 odd quid on ebay, used.

So I can't understand why people are spending this sort of money on a plastic pipe when you can buy a descent induction kit for the same price (give or take a few quid).

I don't get it!

I've read the thread about the intake pipe....It lets in more air. So does an induction kit!

57i, Green cotton, ram air all descent bits of kit or even the k&n apolo (cold air feed)

So to some up. I'd rather spend 79.99 on a neat bit of induction kit instead of a plastic pipe.

Am I wrong?

Someone help me out on what I'm missing.

prob cos one retains standard look..other looks boy racerish..

PD160 retains the OEM look while doing a very good job of taking in more air. Not every one likes induction noise and some people claim to have power loss when using induction. How true? I don't know :)

I paid £50 posted for mine from a Briskoda member. I've seen them go for less

I thought the OEM look would be the reason for most.

I just thought there was some thing more technical in the reason.

I`v read reports of "k&n" style filters causing issues also

I wonder if they are cheaper in germany to buy then import?

Issues including??

i've heard bad things about induction kits. Might be aload of baloney to keep people away from 'em.

i got my PD160 Intake for a decent price in the end £35 off seatcupra. just kep your eyes peeled and be quick.

It's a supply and demand thing.

Way back when the cars were launched the pipes were £30 and made sense.

SEAT cottoned on to the fact that they were selling loads of them for upgrade reasons and the price has risen steeply since and are now at the point where it is almost that expensive as to not be worth bothering

But then to get the most out of a remap (especially a custom one) you need more air, more air needs a bigger intake which requires being shafted by SEAT.

I've read issues of K&N style filters causing issues when they are over oiled and the excess being sucked through the engine and causing damage

Issues including??

Issues with the maf sensor I think. There was a big thread on here with someone writing to k&n and stuff. Have a search

Matt

I got a metre length of 4inch ducting hose for 20quid, probably gets just as much air as the pd160

Yeap, over oiling the filter can kill your maf sensor.

how would we go about this? im in for splitting postage cost

Heat soak can be another issue. You're drawing warm air from round the engine rather than cool air from outside the engine bay (assuming you get a cheap open cone type filter). I fitted a 57i kit to a Corsa I had a few years back and if you were sat at traffic lights for any amount of time then when you went to drive off you had a few seconds of very low power whilst it shifted all the warm air through that it had been taking in. It's not too much of an issue in winter but in summer I think you'll experience a pretty big drop in power.

Its just a hunch but I reckon this is a case of rip-off britain...

I did this last year on a Peugeot forum. The shipping cost was 20 euros (Item was 19.90 euro) so I ordered 20 items & got a bulk discount too.

Just been on international ebay and can't find any!!

Is it not possible to get them cheap from that guy in Ireland who was selling the ss intercoolers cheaper ?

http://www.fabia4fun...ID=458&pageNo=4

Had a quick look around, Found some prices (18 months out of date) on a German forum, Looks like the pricing is a global thing, Not just the UK!

David Hawthorne of Sere Motors? I could email him and ask.

Just done some research on standard Fabia's and about 75% of all Fabia 1's use the same air filter!! Same Dimensions etc.

In other other words: I can take the air filter out of a 1.4 60hp petrol Fabia or a 1.9 SDI 64hp filter or a 1.9TDI 100hp filter and they will alll fit directly into my Vrs???

The only panel filters that seem to be different are for 16 valve models.

So does that mean they're taking in the same amount of air?.... Doubt it.

So if I was to tune/map a 1.9 tdi 100hp Fabia, most people would say you need a BIGGER FILTER, but the 130 hp vrs has the same filter!

I'm starting to think this PD 160 pipe wouldn't make a slight bit of difference to the vrs.
