relay clicking noise whilst on itermittent wipers

Featured Replies

when i have the wipers on intermittent every time they move you can hear a click , like a relay, is this normal? no noise when on full, any ideas on how to stop it its wrecking my head

It's VAG's version of water torture - they put the intermittent wipe relay inside the car.

I put some foam pipe insulation around the relay as I couldn't stand the noise either - better but not perfect. Good job it's a diesel...

were exactly is the relay and how do i get to it to cover it!

was it just foam pipe insulation you used?

The relay is in amongst all of them behind the fuse box - bottom right as I remember.

Run the wipers on intermittent and feel each relay until you find the culprit.

Polyurethane foam pipe insulation fits it reasonably well if you chop it up - the relays are quite close together but you can cut the foam to fit - more or less.

any ideas????

One, turn up the radio  or two, follow this link http://volkswagen.msk.ru/index.php?p=page09_b5gp , follow the links to "Location of electrical components" dont worry they are in English, un zip the file and its on page 16. Its Passat info but should be the same and it lists the location of all devices. Some good wiring diagrams on there too. BTW I'm in Tralee.
