Anyone know if Novus GPS have gone bust or ceased trading? Was looking and the site is gone http://www.novusgps.com I only noticed this weekend when I went to grab the updates for my Novus GPS Rider.

fang you :)

  • 2 weeks later...

So my Talex subscription has finally expired.. and tbh i don't really want to pay a rolling direct debit, and am concerned that Talex are not that easy to contact ie there phone numbers and options always simply direct you to a email address, should anything go wrong.

So, did the Talex vs Novus database thread ever get resolved. Which is better/more accurate ? Thanks

Both are probably nowhere near the quality of the original Talex database, and PocketGPSWorld is probably better now.

I put two talex in the bin recently as I think they went to pot when the who fight over what happened to the DB occurred.

Looks like Novus are no better, the link that Chris posted has not had updates since January, I have just emailed them and will report back :)

I'd heard a while back that someone was working on putting the pocketgps database on the talex...... Does anyone know anymore on this?

Mine too. No way I'm paying £3.95 pm, that's £47.40 a year, significantly more than it was yearly. I'm a bit peeved with them as I have consistently given them corrections where they have got cameras in the wrong place, not there at all or new ones that have appeared. Never got a sniff of a free subscription from them.

My last update was at the end of January, I'm sure it will be good enough for at least 6 months OR do you think I would be better to download the Novus Delta database?

What's a good Satnav system that will provide similar camera warnings without it costing an arm or a leg?

Novus Alpha V3. Lifetime free updates, you can also send positions of cameras you find and they update.

Not sure that will work, I have had no reply to email and nobody answered the numbers given on the website or replied from the sales email address.

No updates since the 23rd Jan, so it looks like the lifetime updates are as much use as tits on a fish if there is nobody there to support it.

Novus have been taken over, all products are still sold under their own name. I have had updates from their website on 5-19-26-December. 13-26 January. 5 - 13- 27 February. Regular updates since 14/10/09 when I obtained an Alpha. I have also used the Eye since coming on the market.

I have only this lunchtime been on the phone to them and ordered another unit.

Well if you take a look at this site http://www.novusauto.com/download.html'>http://www.novusauto.com/download.html you will see there have been no updates for the other units since January, you may well be getting updates from the software, but is there any physical difference in the file size?

Also, I have tried the number listed here http://www.novusauto.com/ and nobody has picked up, and have had no reply from the sales emial address.

If you could supply us with info as to the number you used and the location of your updates that would be most useful.

I don't think so either, it says "Authorised Distributor" and if you have a look on the doanload page Spectrum, you will see it's the same link I posted and the database for the Rider / Picolo / Delta plus / Delta has not been updated since January, also the last alpha update appears to be the 22nd Feb.

They have been coming soon since December mate. Still no response from them on the email address.

Just been onto the Novus download centre http://www.novusauto.com/download.html and it looks as though some new updates have been added. e.g. Novus Rider is now 1031 whereas it was previously stuck at 1023 for ages.

Companies like Novus Systems and Amazon are still advertising Novus products with free lifetime updates so it might be worth checking with them.

The orginal Novus website is back up and running http://www.novusgps.com/ as is the download centre!!

Something funny here. On the first site you give they show the database for the Delta as 1032. On the second site it is 1015. Why are they 2 different version and what do the numbers mean?

First site has the second update for March 2011, second site has the fifth update for January 2011. The second site is the original official downloads page but is more out of date!

The numbering system works as follows:

First digit is the year (so 1 indicates 2011)

Second and third digits are the month (so 03 indicates March)

Fourth digit is the version number (so 2 indicates the second update provided in the month).

I agree, there is something a bit strange about now having two different sites and versions of downloads. Could it be someone is trying to make it look as though all is well in order to shift more hardware?

I would advise anyone considering buying a Novus to make a few phonecalls and see whether they can get a human to answer (and with a credible explanation as to what is going on) before parting with their hard-earned cash.

I've updated my Rider from the download site http://www.novusauto.com/download.html with V1031 without any problems, so I don't think its the website I'm afraid.

So can I update my Talex from the Novus site with their latset database. I believe the Talex is identical to the Novus Delta - is that right? It hasn't been updated since January from the Talex site, will it work? will I be better off or is it best not to try?
