I've updated my Rider from the download site http://www.novusauto.com/download.html with V1031 without any problems, so I don't think its the website I'm afraid.

So at least there is still some life at Novus! However, updates seem far too sporadic now for my liking. I think I may invest in a Snooper Pantera just to be sure. It's far too easy to slip over the limit in the vRS so I need a reliable source of warnings for cameras etc.

That's interesting. I've been updating without problems but my PC is running XP too.

Thanks also for the feedback on the Pantera. I'm attracted by the free lifetime updates and hopefully as they're backed by Snooper/Cobra, they're less likely to disappear!

Thank you. Have now registered and getting updates again. :)

Just updated and its missed 2 speed cameras near me!!

They were put in about 3 months ago!!

Hi Chris,

I had an issue with a (recently installed) local camera that was not recognised by my Novus Rider.

Advised Novus (Edd) of the location, not picked up after the next 2 updates. So I contacted him again, he finally sent me a map (!) to confirm the location and has updated the database several times and the unit is still not detecting it. Oh, and they have had the thing back and tested it to no avail....!

How can you honestly rely on an item that is tested by the Mfr and its database updated weeky but still fails to locate cameras ??

I have now used Talex and Novus products and would not want to spend any more of my hard earned on this type of kit.

Not very happy with the Novus Database. I travelled bothways along the A13 in East London yesterday and my Talex went haywire.

It announced all the Fixed cameras (8 in total) that were de-commisioned and replaced by Specs a few months ago and got all the new Specs start/finish points and speed limits wrong (40 instead of 50).

I'm pretty sure the last Talex DB I had back in January had it correct. 4 months later the Novus DB announced how it was in 2010.

I have informed Novus of this via their report a Camera system. We'll see if it gets put right, but it does throw serious doubt on the validity of the whole Novus DB and whether it really is kept up to date!

I updated to the latest novus db yesterday, what a bag of spanners. SPECS warnings for the m62 for what seemed like an eternity after Birch services almost to Leeds. They have been gone for months. Alarms for decommisioned fixed cameras that used to be up years ago near Forton services, and it missed 2 active mobile sites on the m74 (camera vans where there).

It's not as good as it used to be.

Well, with what you've found together with what I found yesterday I would say it's worse than that - It's completely useless!

anyone any thoughts on the two new novus units,600 and 700.

how is every one now finding the novus updates, any improvements

Anybody know what's going on with Novus. I updated a couple of weeks ago with their latest Delta database (which was crap by the way) it was dated around end of May but now their database is showing DB 1011, so it's gone back to January ???

Talex is no longer supported by Novus. Their Talex DB was crap anyway - miles out of date. Time to dump the Talex I think!

My GPS Rider is sat on the computer table gathering dust if anyone wants to make a small donation for it :)

I have switched to the Pocket GPS Database and use it in conjunction with the CamerAlert App (Available on Market Place and on iPhone App store), I have also added the Pocket GPS Database to my Columbus Maps using Pimp my nav (Fixed and red light only)

The GPS Rider is a great system, there has just been so much uncertainty with the database over recent months. I suppose I could just stick to the speed limit, (dangling line ....... waiting for a nibble)

I would love a recommendation for a Sat Nav. Tom Tom or Garmin for around £100.

I've read all about them but am totally confused. Seems people have had issues with both. Particulary Tom Tom where countless people seem to have had map update issues and poor customer service. Garmin some reliability issues.

Was looking at Tom Tom Start 20 or Garmin Nuvi 1310. I was favouring Garmin as their camera updates are a reasonable £19.99 a year.

What do you think?

You could use TomTom for the user friendliness and then pocket GPS database at £14.99 per year for the subscription which covers it's use on 3 devices?

I have nothing against Garmin, I use Garmin on my Bike, but I have always found, (IMHO) that TomTom is the most user friendly, Garmin for the geekier types like myself that might want to dig in and play a bit more.
