Front Brake calipers going dull?

Featured Replies

Hi im just wondering in anyone else's front calipers colour is fading? Ive a vrs with red calipers and they are going pink or at least they don't have the shine of the rear ones any more. ive been using autobrights Very Cherry Acid Free wheel cleaner on them but it doesn't seem to to be whats causing it as surely the rears would be the same?

ive told the dealer but i think they think im mad!

They will fade over time. What year is your car? The pink on the front but not the rear could be explained by the fact that the front calipers are likely to get hotter during use.

i had thought that but its only a 2009 with 22k on it.

Ah right! Well they shouldn't be affected within that time/distance. If the dealer thinks you've gone mad, get them to compare yours with a similar aged car on the forecourt, or even a new vRS model sat in the showroom. Sounds like they haven't been treated properly; an agressive cleaner product could cause that (if you've not owned the car from new) - or that the finish applied to them at the factory isn't upto scratch.

Great - hope mine don't start doing that! I don't use any cleaner on mine at all.....just soap and water and a jet wash!

I use very cherry as well but no fading yet

have you tried a bit of polishing to ensure it is not some sort of scum on them?

Was going to pop the wheels off this saturday and give them a good polishing with some AG SRP and then wax them - we'll see what happens

When I swapped the front wheels to the rear I also noticed the calipers going dull, bit of polish and came up like new!

Give them a good clean with the wheels off and see what they are like after.

Sweet - will do, cheers folks

Yep, worth a try.

A clean down with some degreaser, rinse down, shampoo them, rinse, dry and then some sealant - Jetseal 109 if you have it. Particularly handy in this area and on the wheels as it has a decent temp threshold.

That would be my process anyway, before taking it up with the dealer
