electrical woes

Featured Replies

hello all. i have a 2000 year tdi hatch with a range of electrical faults which seem to point to the convience module, no electric windows from the switches but will go up and down from the key in door. no interior lights. central locking working on only two doors (passanger front and back) no electric mirrors.

so far i have swapped the convience module behind dash - no difference

swapped the electric window switch on drivers door for known good one - no difference

swapped all relays - no difference

checked all fuses etc

swapped locking solenoid and door lock on rear drivers side but no difference

i also have an airbag light on but tried two code scanners (one is a sealey i cant remember the model but it had a vw/audi setting) but neither can communicate wit the ecu

can anybody shed any light on this as im thinking it must be the loom or the main ecu. can the ecu cause all these faults?? the central locking issue is the same with the convience module connected or dis-connected, i would have thought that the central locking would not work without the convience module connected.

PS by convience module i mean the black box above the relays on the drivers side behind the dash

any help greatly appreciated

When you swapped the CCU, did you replace it one with the same part code (including the letter(s) at the end)?

If you use the key in the boot lock (or passenger side lock if you have one), do the doors lock/unlock?

Use the key in the driver lock and hold it the open position. What happens?

Have you fitted an aftermarket radio? This can interfere with the K-line on the diagnostic port.

ive had similar electrical woes with mine :S swapped convenience unit (same part number) traced wiring fault to red/yellow central locking feed junction in n/s/f footwell/inner sill- all corroded and causing a massive resistance due to water ingress.. :(

disconnected and reconnected the battery- seemed to reset convenience module? :S things now work (when they want to..lol)

good luck
