Swing Speaker Setup?

Featured Replies

What settings do you guys use on your swing radio setup?

I've been playing with the swing radio on my Fabia vRS for days now but can't find a decent setting, mainly due to 'boomy' bass and high levels of treble.

Turning the bass down cures the 'boominess' somewhat but makes it sound tinny and no amount of fading the speakers or adjusting the middle / treble seems to make much difference. Turning the 'loud' feature off does help but again makes it sound a bit tinny.

Any ideas for a decent setup?

No ideas on how to remedy the overly boomy bass? General settings for a good setup?

A lot of people in this section will have the Swing radio so there must be some variation with setups with equally varying results?

well, it would sound tinny if you turned he bass down so not sure what u mean by boomy bass.

that's how it's supposed to sound, perhaps u might want to consider upgrading the oem stuff

'boomy' as opposed to 'punchy'

Basically the bass at certain frequencies can drown out the rest of the frequency range by what can only be described as a deep humming / resonating noise. It only exhibits this behaviour at certain frequency levels though.

Everyone says it's a decent stereo for OEM but I'm finding it rather poor. The 'Stream' stereo on our Octavia is a far superior system to this although I'm willing to accept that it's a bigger car therefore bigger speakers. No car I've ever owned has this problem of 'boomy' bass though, must be a setup issue surely?

The headunit is fine, the problem is the cheapo paper cone speakers fitted in the doors with their simple crossovers, along with the door design. To fix the sound, you'll need to upgrade the speakers and add some sound deadening material inside the door.

Hi scott, you might like to talk to your dealer about this. This isn't a normal problem I don't think with the 'Swing' as it's not a bad system. You obviously know a bit about set up of the system but you've had no joy when twiddling with the controls. I know of individuals with this system who are totally music freaks...well actually they are just freaks in my book, but they do say wonderful things about the Swing system. Just a thought, have you got sound coming out of each individual speaker and tweeter? If one is not connected or faulty that would be your problem! Or...you may have a couple of faulty speakers anyway. It just could be your dealer may need to go into the system and alter the base settings via a tuning tool. Or your Swing may be faulty, but I doubt that.

FOOTNOTE: I have just seen Mannyo's post above...and of course he is almost certainly right too. But I would still check out the other stuff before spending money...it's surprising what you can find sometimes.

Thanks for the replies. I'll add this to the ever growing list of 'issues' for the dealer. It's already going there tomorrow for a couple of things so I'll mention it to Chris on service.

It could well be cheap material for the cones but could also be some sort of setup issue aswell. I'll have a good listen to each individual speaker / tweeter on a neutral setup to make sure they're all working.

Funnily enough I had a good listen to the loan car I got last week - a Fabia SE with the same Swing / 8 speaker setup as my car. No discernible 'booming' or buzzing door cards as my car has. More importantly it went in a straight line but that's another issue!!

I'm sure my name is like mud on the Walls of my local dealer as I seem to spend more time in their showroom than in the car!

In that case it sounds like there might be something wrong with your system if the loan car with the same system sounds different. The only thing I can think of that might cause the buzzing if some ground issue.

I get vibrating door cards when I turn the volume up.

Probably only solvable by sound deadening material.

my little baby had a realy nasty vibrating from the door even when the stereo was not on ,took it back to the dealer and they found the wire for the window moves in a channel it was a little slack when the window was up so they are fitting a new motor to get rid of the vibrating ,the doors do need sound deadening ,then you will find a lot more mid bass from the stereo and the boom will go from any low bass .i always sound deaden my cars but iam putting in another high end stereo system will put some pics up when she is finished .
