1.3 mpi Fuel filter change

Featured Replies

Hi,

How easy/difficult is it to change the fuel filter on a 1.3 mpi without putting the car on a ramp. The Haynes book describes it as difficult, a three spanner job.

Thanks

Michael

the worst ever place thye could have put it.. doable if you can get the side jacked up on stands but a right pain and you will get petrol in your eyes :dull:

 love it!

it is quite tricky to do, you need tiny little fingers to get in there

A nightmare job, I looked at it and walked away, got the garage to do it as part of a full service!!!! :giggle:

I managed mine OK with just some normal ramps under the back wheels, but that was with the back box (and heat shield) off since I was changing the exhaust at the same time. The tricky bit was getting the hose clip off on the input end - needed some very long pliers for that.

I've seen a couple of mentions of being able to pop out a cover plate under the back seat and access it from above, but I've not personally checked how true/straightforward that is.

you can not see the filter with the cover plate off, only the pump,

it is lots easier with the exhaust off tho but that makes a lot of work for just the filter,

you can see why nobody ever changes them as a service item lol

i feel another 'how to' thread coming on in the near future :giggle:

recently changed the filter on my 1.3mpi- its easy enough to 'drop' the exhaust, disconnecting the rubber holders- the heat shield came away with no problems- after removing the inspection hatch in the boot, exposing the fuel-pump, i disconnected the fuel-line going to the filter, attached a lenght of string to the pipe, allowing enough room under the car to disconnect the filter- - i threw away the old clips holding the fuel-lines ( in and out) to the filter, and replaced them with Jublilee clips- and yes, there was feckin petrol all over the shop- it cant be helped!- once the fuel-lines were attached, i gently drew the sting back up, drawing the fuel pipe back to the pump, and attached back on- the whole job took about 20 mins or so. - hope this helps!
