Oil Filter Cover

Featured Replies

Alright folks,

Went to do an oil change on my friends Y reg 1.9 pd100 today, took all my usual vRS oil change kit.

One problem, the socket I use to remove my filter housing cover didn't fit over the nut on his....by about 3mm!

That stumped us for a bit, but got there in the end...

Anyone else been caught out by this?

Any reason for different sizes (other than the obvious 0.5p saving in plastic)?

Cheers,

PL

probably has a different oil filter or just changed the cap because its a 100 not a 130

I think the filter is the same, just a smaller nut. oh well, I guess cost-engineering is the answer!

32 or 36mm are the two possibilities.

A while ago I checked our 2003 (53) 1.9TDI Fabia and it was 36mm.

They changed it in 2004, so up to 2003 (53) it is 36mm (1" 7/16)

From 2004 (04) onwards it is 32mm (1" 1/4)

Ah, that would make sense then! Certainly flummoxed me for a minute, ended up with a trip to halfords but added time to oil change - was late to the pub for the footie!

Cheers for the info folks
