CB83, thanks for that mate, yes I avoid supermarket fuel at all costs and have never considered a few pence per ltr worth worrying about at all. Estate Man, I take on board what you say about not investing in fancy priced stuff. If it was of benefit I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. I am not seeing anyone warning against Redex etc., So many other sites carry posts of people who say they would never put additives in their tanks whilst others say additives put in the fuel tank don't work. I think Redex and co have been around too long for that to be the case?? I stil baulk at the thought, my car is running so smooth and worry adding Redex might unbalance it but I'm well known for being "cautious Harry) !!!

Redex is basically Naptha...coloured red, also known as marvel mystery oil in America

They do a petrol ecomax that also contains Naptha, same as redex but you get octane boosters as well.

Naptha is also used in diesel ecomax as the cleaning agent, same as a lot of additives except that they put 2-EHN in to raise the Cetane level.

I use redex in my motorbike, keeps it clean. Also a drop of IPA to keep the moisture at bay.

Biggest enemy of cars imho is pootling about without getting everything nice and toasty warm. After my 250 mile trip to Essex (all motorway at ....umm.....speed) the car was a lot smoother and perkier, mpg was up after that run also. I think they call it an Italian tune up :giggle:

50 more miles from using Redex....... :wonder: maybe if your car was a clogged up mess beforehand. Otherwise, thats overstating it a bit surely. If your cars internals are clean beforehand, Redex will do nothing other than perhaps keep it that way.

Overstating probabley but the difference is stark in consumption and performance, may have to take some myself give me a bit of a pep up,as the car had done a fair bit of mileage overa short period I was giving it redex every fill up but now however I will bring this down to 2 or 3 treatment a year

Funnily enough, some engines do show a remarkable improvement in fuel economy after treatment. Especially if they have not been dosed with Redex or Millers before. We had many reports from customers with Honda's who were showing as much as 8mpg more per gallon after treatment and considerably more power particlularly the Honda Accord 2ltr petrol for some reason. We had no way to verify this but we had so many reports from different individuals that we could definitely say it made the engines perform better. This tended to be on cars that were 2-4 years old and had never been treated. I'm not saying everyone would see that sort of improvement, but I know my car and my motorcycles always give improved mpg and power after treatment once a year.

This morning I added Redex in accordance with instructions on bottle. Reckon I have enough for 3 treatments. I will report back on what if any difference I find over a period..

I've got some millers on order, I've kept a log so far of my mpg for each tank so will report back after a few tanks with millers to compare. fwiw the millers is costing 8.99 + 1.99 for delivery and is designed for 10 uses apparently.

Millers any better than redex? redex does 3 treatments for roughly £3.50 do they do a diesel treatmentemoticon-0148-yes.gif

don't know if it's any better, just thought I'd give it a go. Yes they do have a diesel one.

Ive seen posts on sites where some swear by Millers etc but I don't know if one is better than the next. I can only imagine it's all more or less the same chemicals, packaged and marketed differently...

  • 2 months later...

Just an update on this. I've been using the Millers on and off for a few months and for me it seems to consistently give me an extra 2-4 mpg. Not a great deal, and probably not enough to rule out other factors such as traffic differences throughout the weeks etc. I'll probably use it once a month or so just to help keep everything clean inside. Fuel brand seems to be a much bigger factor in the mpg game for me.
