Intake Manifold Swap

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I've been told this is posible and straight forward, but after watching the parts I'm not pretty sure. Specially since I'm doing myself.

Problems I have seen:

The AEG uses a classic "paper" gasket, the AKL uses a "rubber" one, like an O-Ring... (this shall not be a problem anyway)

I allready have de AEG manifold, upper+lower, but found out that the fuel rail on the stock AKL is part of the manifold, I brought the AEG Rail, but it seems that AKL inyector are a bit shorter, also those on the AEG seems to have some kind of ¿vaccum?

Will I need to buy also inyectors? Anyone done this before? any other issue I will encounter on the way?

Thanks everyone

Does anyone have access to injectors? I just need to compare if AKL 1.6 are the same size as 2.0 AEG/ABA

the vacuum pipe you mention is part of the auxilary air injection system, there is a pump which forces air into a shroud around the injector to finely atomize the fuel spray, you could just leave this disconnected in your case...

is there any markings/numbers on the injectors? it might help in identifying them and help to figure out which injectors would suit it best

Let me search the part number at ETKA, it will be great if I could just use my stock AKL injector, not because I'll be sure that the injection will be the same (assuming the AEG/ABA have greater flow), but I can also save some money at buying injectors... =)

My stock ones are the 037 906 031 AA, and the AEG are 037 906 031 AD. If size is the same I could use my original injectors =)

Begs the question, why?

I don't want to use the 2.0 injectors because if the flow is greater my A/F ratio con get rich, and also the extra cost of buying them, that I want to skip if possible

Yeah I get that, but why change the manifold.

the aeg engine has a far better intake manifold, it's a 2 piece aluminium one rather than an moulded plastic one on the akl engine, also it allows you to use a larger throttle body

Yes, and I already have cams (milds for AEG, but works like a champ on the AKL), the larger manifold + larger TB will make my setup much better... and maybe this sound nonsense, but the engine cover fron the AEG is also good lookin =)

So... anyone can help me comparing the injectors?

sorry the part number on the injector isn't enough to go on... to give you a better idea i will need some of the number off the body of the injector itself

Well that can be a bit more difficult, my stock ones are on the car and I don't have access to the AEG injectors.

I'll try to go to the dealer and look for new ones of both. and compare...
