Wind Noise

Featured Replies

I seem to get a fair amount of wind noise when traveling at 70mph. Still there at lower speeds but not nearly as noticeable. Is this the norm? What should I be checking?

I can't really tell where it's coming from. The windows I think?

Will those wind deflectors help at all?

Cheers,

Mark

I found they made a slight difference but I think more of the noise is coming from the small vent just above the a/c vent.

If it's a noticeable slight difference I may have to get some.

I think I know what you mean. The little non adjustable vents on the left and right side of the top of the dash? I may have to tape those up and see if that helps then :)

Yeah thats the one's, I tried having a look for anything about them a while ago but couldn't find much.

I actually like the wind deflectors more for aesthetics than anything now, they look great on a black vRS, I got Team Hieko ones of ebay for about £36 I think

Turn the radio up? I'd rather have mist free windows and ventilation than cut out a minor bit of wind noise! It has been very windy recently too which won't have helped. I've never noticed the Fabia be particularly bad for wind noise though, are all the windows definitely shut? I give the rear winders a nudge every so often just to make sure they haven't crept down at all.

I had a Problem with the door when i first got my 04 fabia, took it to the dealer i got it from and they said they had "adjusted" the door!!! it seemed to me that it was coming from the top of the drivers door so maybe the seal was gone and they changed it but never got a satisfactory answer, if the wind is blowing in the right direction i still get a bit of noise but nothing like i used to.

don't block those vents up they are really useful and i do'nt think they will make much of a change for you

I get lots of wind noise as well, but I think it's from the door seal, not the window.

The noise definitely isn't coming from the dashboard vent (on my car anyway). I've tried feeling for draughts but couldn't detect anything in any particular area, I also occasionally get a knocking noise from the doors, when I turn around the corner like it's rattling against the seal.

I have heard that you can adjust the door position to give it a tighter fit on the seal, but I don't know what bolts to unscrew so I've learnt to live with it (like the many other niggles of the Fabia)...

Only bad wind noise I get in the VRS is after a dodgy curry.

I find using front wipers at speed generates sound/tone pitch, which alters as wipers reaches different part of screen,

probably caused with air travelling over wiper-blade body.

*Add road tyre noise to list, no matter what make or brand.

*Smooth or rough laid surface of road to blame for this sound.

Many thanks for the replies.

I covered the driver side vent with my hand, but it made no difference. It's fairly loud.

Does anyone know about this door adjustment? First I have heard about that, and a quick google doesn't seem come up with anything.

Moggy - Haha. Curry for me every Wednesday night. Thursday as well this week. Get in!

I have ordered some Heko deflectors all round. I'll see if those make any difference, though if it does it seems like more of a band aid to the problem :(

To give you an idea of how noticeable it is, a work colleague recently (a couple of weeks before this post) thought that the door wasn't shut properly, so apparently it's just as bad on the passenger side. He drives an 05 Corsa....

All of the windows were shut tight, and the doors were all shut properly.

I think I know the cause of this now.

When I first fitted aftermarket tweeters we ran the wire up the side of the dash, and had to pull the door rubber seal out at the edge to get it up there (I've since routed speaker wire through the door properly). There's a nice gap where the seal hasn't gone back on properly on both sides :(

I tried hammering it back, but it's refusing to go properly (compared to the parents car).

I've wedged a thin slice of LL Pro in the gap for now as a temporary measure. I'll see if it makes a difference later on.

You could try warming it with a hair dryer to see if that helps it go back to its original shape.

Have you checked the rear windows are all the way up. They have a habit of working themselves down by a couple of mm

I think it might be a badly fitted windscreen. I put some envirolay behind the a pillar trim a couple of days a go and it does seem better. The windscreen does seem to be fitted unevenly if you look behind that trim...

Used to get a sort of loose plastic noise coming from somewhere upon hitting bumps - that appears to have gone too. I couldn't really pinpoint that noise, so I am quite surprised it was just that all along.

I'm beginning to like my car again.
