DSG/Handbrake

Featured Replies

Although still waiting for the car to arrive, I presume the DSG is like any other automatic that you can put into park and not necessarily use the handbrake whilst in park.

What is the offical advice on this/experience/choice of people that have one. My thoughts that like any other automatic the handbrake is rarely used, unless its on a very steep hill/drive/road ?

Thanks.

always use the handbreak.

It is sufficient to engage selector lever position P when parking on a flat surface. When

parking on a slope you should first apply the handbrake firmly and then move the

selector lever into position P. This is to ensure that there is no excessive pressure acting

on the lock mechanism and that it is easier to subsequently move the selector lever out

of position P.

I always use the handbrake when the car is in park. The HHA (Hill Hold Assist) has worked flawlessly for me on every hill and gives me plenty of time to move away so I don't use the handbrake in that circumstance.
