Key fob battery lifetime

Featured Replies

I have tried eBay and Halfords for a replacement CR2032 lithium battery for my key fob, and each time it only lasts a couple of weeks. The original one lasted years! Am I simply buying cheap batteries, and should I go to the Skoda Dealer for this?

Sounds like the keyfob is faulty and draining the battery rather than it being a problem with the batteries.

Cheers

Dave.

Seconded. I've no idea how old the batteries in my fobs are, cos I've never changed them, but I've had the car just under 5 years now.

I'm assuming both the batteries are still the originals in my remotes (had the car 3.5yrs and not changed them).

My batteries have "Panasonic CR2032 3V Indonesia" written on them, if that helps.....

Do you have a spare key?

Yes I do, but on that key the remote locking doesn't work at all! Not good....

I am the same, had the car for a good 5-6 years and never changed the batteries in either key fob. The car did have the locks changed at somepoint, according to the paperwork which came with it, so I suspect it has a second-hand set of keys (non-flip and they look a bit mashed up and battered).

Mine got so that you needed to have the key almost touching the car before it worked, I opened up the key and cleaned all the dust out and it has been fine since, I didn't change the battery.

Thanks everyone - it does sound like I have two faulty keyfobs (one with a completely dead remote, and one that quickly drains the battery). What are the odds?! Does anyone know the best way to go about sourcing a replacement? Not wanting to be ripped off!
