crunching gears

Featured Replies

Hi just wondering if anyone has had the problem i am getting with my octavia. its a 2005 1.9tdi classic. when the car has been driving for about an hour(i am a taxi driver), 2nd and third gear start to crunch when trying to change into them. if i let the reves drop to around 1000rpm and change gear very slowly ,then there is no crunching. the following morning from cold the gear change ok without crunching. any ideas .i am going to my mates in the evening to check the level and quality of the gearbox oil. could that be a problem....thanks

I'm guessing it's quite high mileage, so the selectors/syncro's might be shafted...

Also the oil as it gets hot thins and becomes less effective. Always worth changing it every 60k for some nice fully synthetic snot!
