Ferodo DS3000's

Featured Replies

Just thought id post some feed back on Ferodo DS3000's that ive just bought!

Only got these pads fitted today and I was unsure of what to expect due to usually using Pagid and having bad experiences with EBC Yellow.

But im happy to say ive fitted them and they aren’t even bedded in correctly yet and they are outstanding, no other word for it

They are only designed for the track, BTCC, Group A,N etc but there are no worries about stopping from cold and the hotter you get them the better they get!

Even the price is good I payed £112 for a set of pads to fit my Porsche 996 calipers which isn’t bad when you think that the EBC Yellow rubbish are nearly £90 depending on what car you get them for.

The braking coefficient you get when you come off the motorway is awesome, all you need to do is apply the brakes a little and as they warm up they bite more so no need to brake any harder.

They are comparable to Pagid RS19's for those who have used them.

nice write up mate  gives me confidence to go out and buy some of my own. do you have any issues with squeal from these pads? do they fit snug in the brackets or are they loose?

also where did you purchase?

cheers

Interesting read..... I've always had DS2500's on mine as I always thought the DS3000's were **** from cold and only really any good for on track.

Might have to try a set next time.....

I got these from circuit supllies, excellent service, got adivce and great sales to, got them next day!

Yeah the squeal isnt too pad when they are cold, not as bad as rs19's but its there, also they fit tight in the brackets as ive got porsche calipers but i wouldnt know about a normal caliper as if for example you buy rs19's they dont have the spring clip on the inside pad to hold them in the caliper and the inside pad on every wheel jingles!!!

They arent **** from cold, but they arent as good as they could be!

One good stomp on the brakes sorts it out though and that when they start to warm up you really notice the difference.

The only issues really if you a pretty bboy and you want to keep your wheels clean, these arent for you as the dust is quite bad, not sure if its any worse then standard VAG pads as ive not had them on there that long but i did give my wheels a wipe over yesterday when i fitted them and today they are quite black! lol

Also they will go through discs quicker than normal pads, say ds2500's or other makes( dare i say the it? ahhhhhh im going to have to EBC, sorry!)

But the 312mm disc isnt that costly and id rather have good pads that cost a bit more and replace the discs before the pads lol

Ill post how they go with the brake dust.

Im not sure where youd get these pads from for other calipers as i believe they are special order from Ferodo due to them being a race only pad but like i say Circuit supplies sold me the ones for my Porsche brakes so i would think they could get them easily enough.

Just a little bump on this thread, how are they bearing up after a month or so ?

Yeah they are very dusty, really dusty!!

All you pretty boys wont like them! lol

But ive done some experimenting with calipers and brake pads and found out some really interresting information.

Im using my DS3000's with Porsche 997 Carrera rear calipers, the ones your not supposed to use as the pistons are too small!

Heres what ive found out using 986 fronts(Big Reds) and 997/986 S rears(The small piston ones!);

You can use the small piston calipers, infact they are better than the larger ones due to the feel and the ammount of pedal travel which is quite a bit less with the 997/986 S rears which i prefer.

However if you run standard pads or even mildly uprated ones on the small piston calipers they are toilet!

The intial pedal bite is good but after that you can get no force on then and you run out of breaking power right before you over shoot the junction lol

But if you run a high coefficient pad, which may not be to everyones taste you can use the small pistion calipers and infact they are better than the bigger ones for pedal travel and break feel plus the smaller piston calipers have better low off brake drag and superb release even better than the big reds.

Ive also got a set of DS 1.11 coming which are a simlilar high coefficient to Pagid RS19's which i have used before on a Group N M3 and are superb, so im quite keen to get them here and see how they do?!

To summerise the big red calipers 986/997 fronts are the ones to have and you can run any pad as the are designed for the front axle, it just depends on how much braking force, how much dust and how much squeal you can handle!

If not then you use a standard pad or DS2500's

The small piston rears calipers from the 986/997 are easier and cheaper to get hold of and dont really work on standard pads because you don not get any real force with them, due to the small pistons and if you do force them hard you end up over heating the rears as they are trying to make up for the fronts.

Plus i found with the small pistons on standard pads there is no way on earth you would be able to stop in and emergency with this set up!!!!!

But........

If you use them with something like a DS3000 and you can live with the intial first junction warm up, the brake dust and the squeal from the pads when they are hot they are excellent

Lots of pedal feel, loads of bite nice pedal travel and plenty of grunt to play with if you need it, plus you will never over heat them due to the race spec compound.

One thing to take away also is that DS3000's and higher(DS1.11's and so on)

are hard to find due to the fact that they are race pads only and not for use on the public roads!!!!!! and only availble from Ferodo in sets of five! and the DS3000's are £120 odd pound a set too!

But they are very good brakes and im well chuffed with them and will be keping them on oppossed to putting the larger 986 front calipers back on(And not they are not for sale!! lol)

Ill keep you guys informed on the DS1.11 when they arrive

Hope this is of some use to someone

Hi,

What would be the right FERODO DS3000 pad part no to fit on the PORSCHE 996 351 425 calipers??

I have just brought the porsche calipers from ebay. They are no'ed as 996 351 425, 996 251 426. The have 40mm and 36mm pistons on them. i propose to install them on my Skoda Octavia vRS 2005, with 330x28mm rotors and appropriate hardware. Just want to know the right Ferodo DS3000 brake pad code or part no? Thanks
