Steering wheel violently vibrating at 70mph...

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

the CV joint needs doing.....this i am aware of, and both the rear tyres are bordering on being replaced. But lastnight i nearly lost control of the car as the steering wheel was vibrating very violently.

Could the CV joint be the cause of this? Eithr way my wife refuses to drive the VRS until it is sorted. I have a garage looking at it today and tomorrow.

Anyone had any issues with driveshaft? If its the steering wheel i assume it HAS to be something to do with the front wheels right?

So many questions...

Normally I would agree, but on account that your CV joint is almost shot anyway it could be that - depending on how worn it is.

wheel balencing :)

Hi,

If the wheels were out of balance would the vibration not be constant? It comes and goes for like five minutes sporadically...

I spent a week wrestling with my steering wheel thinking of all kind of horrific and expensive suspension problems it could be.

Turned out my front tyres were worn to the point of needing replacing and after fitting new boots the wobble went away

UPDATE:

Well i'm £240 lighter. CV joint, both front bushes and a new battery were needed. FFS....this car is costing a bomb to maintain... :swear: :swear:
