Felicia making huge squeak

Featured Replies

Ok, next in the list of issues with my Felicia is a loud squeak, it is difficult to describe but essentially it sounds like the whole car has turned into a tuning fork, not especially high pitched or low pitched but a constant, loud drone.

It only happens when the car is travelling and usually starts after 2 or 3 miles worth of driving, doesn't matter what speed the car is going, it doesn't change pitch or cause a vibration. I can stop it by braking or swerving from side to side, though this is not practical for driving on the roads, plus passengers tend to get a little car sick. My initial thoughts are that a rear outer brake drum is rubbing on the inner drum and causing the noise.

Has anyone else experianced this or have any suggestions as to what it may be? I was worried that it was a wheel bearing but I have tried moving the wheels with the car in the air and they are as solid as a rock, plus surely the pitch would change depending on speed?

Thanks in advance folks,

- Duggie.

Mouse turning the ventilation fan is getting tired?

Sort of serious; if it's independant of road and engine speed, that and the radiator fan are about the only bits left.

dont know about anyone else, but sounds like classic wheel bearing failure, most likely one of the rears. when mine went ages ago they sounded the same, pitch not changing with wheel speed. more a low rumbleness more than anything else

You probably guessed this, but my mileage does differ on that one.
