Philips XtremePower vs CrystalVision

Featured Replies

Sorry guys, I know there are a lot of headlight topics on at the moment, but I have a more specific question. Here goes:

I am looking at both the XtremePower and CrystalVision made by Philips. My dilema is the following: I want better headlights than the stock VRS but also want white light on the dips.

So, here are the questions:

1. How 'white' are the XtremePowers? If they are white enough I will get these for both dipped and main.

2. How much extra visible light do the CrystalVisions produce? If this is enough I will go for these dipped and XtremePower main.

Thank you all!

Hi Stu,

I've just ordered the Philips although I wanted to get hold of some Bosch Pure light as they won the which test on H7 headlight bulbs.

My Octy has got Xenons which are great & the Fabia has the 'Curve Projector lights' which don't seem too bad...I'm going to try the Philips Xtreme as I could get them for £23 delivered of Amazon & they have a fairly good gain on both dip & main compared to the standard fit bulbs. The Bosch have awesome dip beam performance..almost as good as Xenon's! :o

I'm sorry this doesn't really answer your question...but it might give you some extra information before you buy! Here's an extract from the Which report:-

They tested high/low beam H7 form factor bulbs (and HIDs) in a new Astra and measured light intensity (lux), the more the better! Price is per pair.

Factory fit Dipped 91 lux main 48lux

Factory fit HIDs Dipped 164lux 131lux

Osram Nightbreaker +90% £16.49 Dipped 97lux main 63lux Best Buy

Bosch Pure Light £21.98 Dipped 141lux main 55lux Best Buy

Philips Xtreme power +80% £25.69 Dipped 102lux main 62lux

Halfords Super Brilliance +50% £39.98 Dipped 90lux main 62lux

Which? averaged the light levels which were measured at 10m 20m for dipped and 50m 75m and 100m for main. The distance is the main reason why the main has a lower measured output than the dipped.

Thanks for posting this information Doug, I'm also looking for new headlight bulbs, so this proves intresting.

Cheers

Davy

I had both Osram Nightbreakers and Philips XtremePower in my last car (Fiat Grande Punto) they were both much better than stock, brighter and whiter. I think that I will get the philips bulbs over the Osrams in the future though as the pair of Osrams burned out within 11 months but the philips were still going strong after 2 years.

Although I have not used the crystalvisions so not sure what difference there are compared with the xtremes?

CrystalVisions are supposed to be for the 'white light' HID look.

This is why I wasn't sure if the light output was good for visibility.
