Woohoo Go-Compare FTW

Featured Replies

Had my insurance renewal reminder come through, called them up and got told my next year's premium would be:

£828 !!!!!!!!!! up from £500 the previous year......?!?!?!?!?! no accidents/points accumalated. Just an extra year's NCB to add to the tally.

Called up Adrian Flux (who insure my Golf R32), and after 45mins (wasted time of my life) was told it would be £700 to renew (and only gave me a price after they'd asked me a million times, which I refused initially, to tell them what sorts of prices I'd been getting so far....)

They then spent a further ten mins trying to find cheaper prices...

Best deal Adrian Flux came up with:

£550 for THIRD PARTY FIRE AND THEFT?!?!?!?!?!?!

So £50 more than I paid last year, and less insurance cover... I think not.

So I get home from work, spend 20mins filling in the online forms on GoCompare, and immediately greeted with prices from £420...

In the end I choose one company, upped the voluntary excess to £250 in total, and now it's down to £400.

Unbelievable.

LESS PAIN, LESS STRESS, LESS TIME WASTED, No stupid call centres to deal with, and best of all, CHEAPER

is it proper cover though, a lot of the cheap ones on sites like this are stripped down cover, check you have legal protection etc etc

You should try Skoda insurance. I pay £400 with only £100 excess with nothing on top of that. They have been the best by far and will only repair the car using genuine Skoda parts

As soon as i put more than different alloys on the comparison sites they cant find **** all for me

I've just tried Skoda Insurance as my renewal is due at the end of the month, for cover equivalent to what I have now they have come up with £817  :o

My own company (through IAM Surety) has sent me a renewal quote of £260. That's still an increase over last years premium but better than some of the other jokers are asking.

I'm over 40, no accidents, claims or convictions with full no claims, so I reckon £200ish isn't too bad, but £800 for a car worth less than £4000, who are they kidding?

Buddy I'd cry with sheer joy if my insurance was anything like £260.

I got a quote of £18,700 off that kinda site!

I found that those near the top were then cheaper if I went to them directly. But, it does give a good guide as too who the cheaper ones/one to try directly are.

Can get it down to £800 with £1k excess. Not too bad for a 19y/o on a group 23 car. Down a cool £800 on last year too! :DB)

Just paid £240 and should hopefully get £60 cashback on the deal (4 years no claims 4 years license, adding GF as named driver). Not bad considering cheapest I could get it last year was just over £500 when I lived in Leeds. Renewal with last insurer was £330 with no possibility of cashback and when I phoned them to cancel renewal they tried to offer to reduce the price but when I asked said it would not be near the amount of my new insurer. I like how they think you will see less cover for more money than another insurer as competitive - they can't be that desperate to keep customers these days.

I wonder how much a VRS would cost me to insure :D

I usually pay less than that to insure the Porsche too (agreed value £10k, mileage limited to 5k/year)

sadly the fabia vrs has got to that point where chavs and boy racers can afford to own them, judging by the number i've seen being broken up for spares it's hardly suprising that the insurance premiums are on the way up
