Fabia Tint Removal

Featured Replies

Evening all. My black Fabia currently has tints that were done by the dealer that originally sold the car back in 2006. To be honest I'm not that keen on them and I'm considering having them removed as I think the car looks like a van with them!

Removing the sides isn't going to be an issue, but I've been warned that there's a risk of damaging the heater wires in the tailgate window when removing the tint. I'm considering leaving the tint on the back window, but I'm wary this would look even worse.

I'd like some opinions and/or past experience of anybody removing tints, or photos of anybody with just the tailgate tinted on their Fabia.

Thanks

Just to follow up incase anybody does a search in 4 years time...

I removed the tints myself today, using a heat gun, old cotton rags and 2 small bottles of nail varnish remover. I heated up a corner of each window for about 10 seconds just enough to get my nail behind the tint and start pulling. Using the heatgun again to warm the edge of the tint I continued to pull the tint gradually (take your time, don't pull too quickly or the tint might rip or split). It took about an hour to do the rear drop glass, quarters and tailgate. I was concerned about the tailgate heater lines too, so took extra care and time on the tailgate tint and no problems.

There was some adhesive still left on the windows so I used nail varnish remover on an old cotton rag to remove it. Being quite liberal with the remover makes easier work of it, it's cheap stuff anyway! Make sure you do it this in a well ventilated area though as the smell is quite potent! After doing each window I buffed away any excess and wiped with hot soapy water before drying with a micro fibre cloth.

Hope this helps someone in the future.

Just wanted to say thx, I might very well be using this method shortly to remove the tints from my front drivers and passengers doors. Just bought the car a few days ago to find they are not legal, even after I checked with the skoda dealer!!

I've googled it and some other methods involve steamers or hairdryers, so I've got a few options.

Edit, just seen your location, I work in darlo.
