Different tread patterns on F/R axles - effects?

Featured Replies

My VRS came with two new Uniroyal rainsport 2 tyres on the rear from the dealership, but 2 budget tyres on the front that the previous owner fitted (presumably because they knew the car was going and didn't want to spend the money). tbh i've had no issues with these budget (Runway) tyres but I would like to change them. I'm tempted to go for some performance tyres and I'd like to fit some Vredstein Ultrac Sessantas to the front. Question is will these work well with the Rainsport 2's on the rear, or is the performance level to different between them which may lead to some strange side effects?

Anyone done this?

I've always stuck to the same tyres in the past so have no experience of this.

Won't make any difference really. Always best to change in pairs anyway on the same axle. I have driven many cars with different tyres front and rear and never noticed any difference.

Rainsport 2's are really great i highly rate them and as said same brand on the same axle wont make to much difference as long as its no cheap or bald tires on the back you can control understeer better than oversteer.

I would get two more Rainsport 2's..They are VERY VERY GOOD!!!!

The Rainsports seem good, but are not performance orientated. One of the car mags did a recent tyre test on an Octavia VRS and they came middle of the table. No suprises that they performed very well in wet weather and in aquaplanning tests, but were average in dry tests. Perfectly good tyres though, I just want something with more grip otherwise i'll keep my cheapies until they need replacing.
