Pasty Wagon #2

Featured Replies

Having moved house in October my commute of 10 minutes on foot turned into 20 minutes (on a good day) by car.

Luckily a girl i work with lives up the road so until now I've been catching a lift with her. Now it's lightening up and getting warmer she's decided to the gym more often so can't take me home anymore - the selfish cow! :giggle:

With the other half taking the Fabia on her commute I found my self facing a creek without the possibility of a paddle.

Second car required. Something cheap. only needed for 10 miles a morning and 10 miles an evening. cheap and cheerful.

As long as it runs that'll do.

the cheaper to run and insure the better.

So I introduce my new......

Oops :D

Having spent 8 years driving TDI's the 50 mile homeward trip after the purchase was a revelation. I'd forgot cars went beyond 4000 revs!!

It grips like brown stuff to a blanket and even though it's the less powerFUL 8v (115bhp while the 16v were 135) it goes like similar brown stuff off a stick too :)

Being 12 years old there are a fair few minor niggles but it's to be expected and it's nothing major - temperamental bonnet catch, remote central locking that doesn't work, missing alloy centre cover, non working rear wipe, no recoiling seat belts.

Given it's age it's also in good nick externally and internally and must have been well looked after by it's previous owner.

Am hoping that as a commuting tool it doesn't drink me out of house and home and even if it does hopefully a track day or two will balance it out! ;)

Nice looking Ibiza mate, not seen one in that shape for ages.

... 10 minutes on foot turned into 20 minutes (on a good gay)....

Is it economical? Or are you likely to run out of petrol as soon as it gets off your drive?

:p

now you see why i bought a second car!

Nice choice. Go on - how much did you pay? :)

The 8v should be *relatively* economical. I'd advise you forget again about the availability of 4k+ though ;)

Enjoy....

It was just under £1000 with a brand new MOT and tax until the end of March.

It's done 110k and i'd seen a few around the same mileage for a bnit less cash but they were really tatty whereas this one is really REALLY tidy.

The 50 steady miles back from the dealer revealed 40mpg even with a couple of "spirited tests" and this mornings commute to work which was 90% stuck in traffic up a massive hill (i'm not going that way again) ended with 30mpg which is about what i was expecting.

As it's taxed until the end of March i'll see how it goes and if it does develop a thirst I can't satisfy it should sell on relatively easily

Is this not the same engine as the legendary Mustang slaying Fabia? :o

Wouldn't it have been cheaper to join her gym?

Wouldn't it have been cheaper to join her gym?

No offence Pasty... but that is a really good answer lol.

Afraid it's a girls only gym and besides have you ever tried hustling a gymnasium around a track?! :p

Girls-only gym? Even more reason to join ;)

Luckily a girl i work with lives up the road so until now I've been catching a lift with her.

Is she cute? :smirk:

The car is no longer the highlight of this thread, tell us more about this girls only gym and what the girl who used to drive you to work is like :).

Behave boys I have to work with this girl!

Here's the gym given the photos not sure its the kind of place we'd want to organise a meet at :)

Have done the first fuel fill up last night and the figures I put into Fuelly.com tells me that I did 32.8 mpg

hich given most of the miles were either urban or sat in traffic (and included a few blasts to the redline and 3 figure speeds) isn't too bad at all!

Not a bad purchase for a 2nd car Cliff, it looks tidy for the

mileage and age. Same 8V engine as was in my Golf mark 3 GTI.

Away from the lights the 115bhp 8v golf definitely picked up quicker

vs the 16v 150bhp version. It had a higher torque figure IIRC.

I had a Remus twin 3" upswept DTM pipe on mine. It used to sound MEGA

at 4500rpm upwards. Very deep and bassy note. I miss that exhaust :(

That isn't actually that far from me... Ladies watch out ;)
