Inability to fit Yeti Side Side sill covers

Featured Replies

Some advice sort.

I have had side sill covers fitted buy the dealer who provided my car - Hobins Skoda Manchester.

The first attempt was flawed and they started to separate from the rear.

The second attempt is now showing signs of separation in the middle.

The side sills also show signs of small marks caused by a screwdriver or wedge used to remove them then reseal.

What would anyone recommend. Should I give them another opportunity or go all out and ask for a refund for parts and fitting. Plus find someone who can supply and fit them properly.

I decided to let my supplying dealer fit mine as it's a pretty expensive feature.....

On collection I had to remove a 'white' deposit from the edges which I took to be excess adhesive? It came off quite easily with white spirit.

So far the fitting seems fine - I assume your dealer used the correct fixings ?

HHA381014 Gluing seal ELCH Technik P1 x 4

HHA381016 Activator Primer P146 x 1

N91090701 Self drilling screw x 14

I think I'd want replacement parts if they're at all damaged?

I'd ask them "seeing as it hasnt worked out - what do you propose?" and see what they say, before you make any "demands". Often they will offer more than you'd seek!

On the other hand .... .... ..... ..... ....

Not sure what they used first time round on the sides. I know they used the supplier foam sponge pads on the rear bumper trim and front trim which popped off buy the sunday (picked up the car ona friday). The second attempt used some sort of black adhesive which has been used in excess without success!

Probably 'Tiger Seal' ?

Should do the trick for the front and rear trims - but I wonder if they prepped the areas properly? Most likely covered in Silicone which would prevent effective adhesion.

I've used Tiger Seal on my trims and they're rock solid - must be down to preparation?

This was one of the jobs that Allams messed up on my car - it went back for correction but hadnt been fully removed before refitting properly hence within a few months they were coming away again! Considering the cost of the items and what they charged I was considering taking things further but ultimately didnt want my car anywhere near there bodyshop again. I used a local specialist company to do the work - they used the above 'Tigerseal' - and its spot on! It isnt going anywhere now and its actually fitted to the bodywork as opposed to being set a few mm away from it at one end and flappy loose at the other!! :dull:

NOTE SENT TO HOBINS SKODA MANCHESTER AND CUSTOEMR SEVICES TODAY. Will see what the response is.

Mike,

need a response on this asap. No longer willing to sit back and accept the poor service given by your fitting department.

Your workshop has now attempted to fit the side mouldings twice. Both occasions the side moulding has separated away from the body.

This cost me initially 399£ for parts & fitting – plus my time for a revisit. After the second attempt I noticed dents on the side mouldings where a screwdriver has been used by your workshop to separate from the body before resealing. I also noticed the sealant which has been over applied without the desired effect. All guidelines have been followed, leaving tape attached to the car after the second attempt for more than 48 hours.

I have had no issues with the Yeti except for the dealer fitted accessories. This puts it clearly at the feet on Hobins Skoda Manchester.

The Sales relationship you have built up with me has been tarnished by the ineptness of your workshop. These items have been fitted by Hobins Skoda and are covered under warranty.

I feel I have no other course of action than to find another Skoda Dealer for servicing and future parts.

I am now pushing for a full refund for these parts and fitting. I find it wholly unacceptable to use my time to arrange a further refitting.

Hi

I have recently had these fitted to my new yeti by Rainworth Skoda who have done an excellent job with no problems at all. I can recomend them.

Beyond a joke now.

Its been a few months since they have been refitted and guess what, they have started to seperate again.

What to do now.........

Have them removed? what wil the plastic look like now underneath.... Can this be replaced should scaring be present.

Should I let them refit for a fourth time?

It is all rather tiresum now.

Hi,

emoticon-0106-crying.gif to hear your still having issues, my own thoughts would be to probably not go for another refit but demand they replace the standard plastic sill covers with new unmarked ones (straightforward job) and refund the price paid for the accessories and fuel used tripping back and forth to get them repaired. Would also contact SUK and lodge a complaint with them.

Hope you get it sorted,

TP

I had similar issues. Allams seemed totally unable to fit them to my Yeti (along with the rear bumper protector that fell off after a few hundred miles!), even having had a second attempt, the drivers one came away again. I then paid for a professional bodyshop to refit and they are solid as a rock and perfectly attached now! They used a product called Tiger Seal and its available on Amazon I noticed over the weekend. :)

Skoda UK say they should have had no issues if they prepped the surfaces correctly and used the proper adhesive!

Good luck with getting yours resolved.

I'd complain to the local Trading Standards Office (run by your local council) and arrange for them to visit the dealer. Usually shakes them up.

Had my side sills removed yesterday at the dealer.

Was expecting a refund at the same time. In good Hobins Skoda fashion nothing is quite that simple and I have to wait. Previously, whenever I have returned something I have had a refund immediately. Go figure.

Could someone provide a picture/link to these side sill covers.

I'm not sure what you are referring too.
