150bhp To 180bhp

Featured Replies

hi all,

I have been told by a few volkswagon owners that friendly vag dealers can upgrade the 1.8t standard 150bhp too 180bhp. This sounds a bit suss to me, but they reckon you can drive in get your car plugged into the computer thingy (sorry not very technical) which changes your engine settings to 180bhp without changing the original chip, and being undetectable by any one else therefore not voiding your warranty!! It sounds too good to be true, so I guess it probably is but anyone got any ideas info?

Cheers Fram

As far as I'm aware - right idea, wrong details.

It is possible to get the 150bhp up to about 225bhp by chipping, but I only know of

third party specialists doing this. Some of them claim they're undetectable - how true

this is, I don't know!

Warranties are an interesting thing - basically you can get away with whatever your dealer

"doesn't notice". Although, if you went somewhere dodgy to get the chip done and it frazzled

your turbo, I think they might be inclined to notice (nb. I've never heard of a chip frazzling a

turbo, just an example :D )

I'm sure others with more knowlege on the subject will post !

The only official dealer ECU flash/upgrade I know of is the one mentioned on here recently - the S3 upgrade from 210 to 225bhp in 2001

Those were my thoughts as well, that the only one was the S3 one. Wonder if Volkswagen do a similar one for the Golf Anniversary?

unless he means revo(or similar obd) - they seem to be convinced its undetectable... wouldnt suprise me if there were alternate fuelling maps in there.. MB turned my CLK up from the std map - is a setting in the Star Diag via odb....
