bushes and brakes

Featured Replies

Hi all, just had the MOT and got three advisorys on it.

Front + rear bushes and front discs.

I had planned todo these anways so this is the best excuse todo them sooner than later.

I have about £180, could stretch the budget a bit more if needs must but what is my best buy for all round pads and discs plus bushes?

I have been looking around but this is a world very much new to me. Had a Rover 25 before so it didn't hav many fancy parts lol.

I know there are diffent bushes for different parts of the wishbone but the guy didnt say which ones had perished.

How easy is it to change the bushes?

It's easier to change the wishbones. Getting the old bushes out and new ones in is a tough job. You can buy new wishbones (incl bushes) with ball joints for about £50. (assuming you aren't fussed about OEM parts)

I think you will be lucky (or stupid) if you can do all your bushes, disks and pads for £180!

I tried some cheap bushes a few years ago and had to replace them again 9 months later.

I guess you pays your money and takes your choice. How worn are your bushes and disks really?

Bushes are basically perished is what he said and the discs are pretty much done.

I thought it might be too much of a low budget but if needs must I can increase it, or just do the discs on the front.

I qould rather pay out on quality than keep spending out.

You could have bushes changed for TT ones(about £20) which are nearly the same except they filled instaed of the standard voided ones (which last months for me ).

You could down the poly route which will cost about a third of your budget just for the bushes.

Or as said change the whole arm including the bushes bt OE arms are about £40 each IIRC.

Discs are around £100 for OEM or £120 for OE.

You may be able to source the discs cheaper mind you.

I had my wishbones changed and discs and pads all round done at UNIT18 last year, I ended up going for pattern part wishbones and Brembo discs and EBC pads. It was under £400 all in parts and labour.

Thats not bad at all. How much would it of cost just for parts?

My Dad use to be a mechanic so we have all the tools todo it with at home + the knowledge so don't really need to spend out on the labour.

So are the TT ones better or worse? Because I thought the TT ones where meant to be an upgrade?

Yeah, I don't think I need poly lol.

So are things like these not worth their money?

Sorry I kind of spazzed that last post.

The TT are much better than the standard (which last months for me !!)

I use these ones and get about a year out of them, although most of my driving is around town with many speed humps and crap roads

Dunno, they supplied it all.

TT bushes are much better - should be around £16 each from a dealer

Browns Group were doing EBC VRS grooved disks and Pagid pads in the site sponsor bit for decent enough money. £130 IIRC.

Just spotted that. Are they any good? Will they be better than the OEM ones?

Not got them personally but seem to recollect they had a good response. No doubt someone else will be along to advise soon... The point is they are known brands from a established vendor, not cheap "ebay knockoffs", which some members have reported bad experiences with.
