11 Plate Elegance and Iphone

Featured Replies

Hi All

I ordered my new Elegance Estate yesterday to arrive in March with an 11 plate on it.

I'm trying to work out whether the columbus will work with my Iphone 3gs. There seems to be conflicting views on here. Can anyone confirm if it will connect?

Also there seems to be some mention of the columbus streaming music straight from my phone. How does this work?

I can't wait for my car to arrive but but my only worry is the phone working well. Can someone put my mind at rest.

Cheers

Should work fine on an 11 plate car, as the bluetooth now supports RSAP and HFP modes, you can also stream audio using A2DP with the latest module.

Thanks for the quick reply. I forgot how good this forum is :)

Sorry for my ignorance, what is A2DP and how does it work in practice?

you can connect phones to the Superb 2011 model in three modes;

rSAP (Where the car becomes the phone, taking the Sim card information over the bluetooth - this allows txt messages to be written on the Columbus and received on the MFD - mainly Nokia, some Blackberry's etc)

HFP (Bog Standard, hands free - this will work with your iPhone)

A2DP (Music streaming)

When you connect to the Columbus via Bluetooth, go to the media setting and on the top right there will be a Bluetooth icon, press it and whatever music is playing on your iphone will be streamed to the car stereo over A2DP. http://www.mobileburn.com/chtml/definition.jsp?term=A2DP

To put your mind at ease, mine is a 60 plate and my 3GS works fine.

Thanks for all your replies and making it clear.

Double excited about my car now that I know my phone will work and with the added bonus of wireless music which I didn't realise it did.

Only a few weeks till I get rid of my Mondeo and sit back in the lap of luxury and my left leg takes a holiday thanks to my DSG 170 TDI.

I can't stream music with my 3gs iPhone de Bluetooth icon is faded when phone connects and I have it selected in media

You need to turn it on in the columbus/bolero menu before it becomes active.

I have it turned on mate

MY11 October - on works with iPhone3gs and iPhone4

iPhone5 due out in June will also work but with Nokia's recent tie-up with Microsoft there is a snowball's chance in Hell that it will be rSAP

As above 3GS and Iphone4 work straight away.

The only thing I've found is that the music streaming doesn't connect first time in the majority of cases. You press the media button and you get no source found. I've found that if you press the radio button and then media and it connects.

Strange ... With my HTC Desire HD, it works every time. My BT module is the 7P6 Premium. Don't know if that makes any difference.

Sorry, slight topic hijack here but can anyone tell me if A2DP music streaming shows the title/artist/etc from the streaming device (iPod, iPhone, etc) on the screen of the Columbus?

No info appears on the Columbus for A2DP, just 'BT Audio'

The bluetooth source option only appears in the media menu if you are actually playing something on the phone, or at least it does in my set-up, with an iPhone 4.

bestest,

They just updated my bolero`s software but that BT audio doesn`t work. My car is made early 2010....they said that this bt audio was added to 2011-cars. Do I need to change some part or what ? This has probably been answered already---sorry... :)

And I have nokia, not iphone.....

A nuisance feature is when the iPhone is connected to the Columbus and an email arrives, the bluetooth automatically switches from the radio to the media. Only fix I've found is to disable data on the iPhone when driving.

...or just switch to vibrate on the side of the phone...

Or you could disable the auto switch source feature in the stereo.
