312mm Disc and Pad combo

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Around Easter, I will be fitting the 312mm brake setup to my Fabia Elegance. I'm collecting the bits at the moment, in fact I already have the calipers, carriers and hubs (the tricky bits to find) which just leaves the discs and pads (fluid is getting changed at the same time too).

Having fallen into the fallacy of having expensive grooved fast-road discs on a daily driver before, I'll not be making that mistake again: plain faced discs is what I'm after. However, I want decent quality ones. Brembo have been recommended to me, are there any others I should consider?

Also, I'm fairly sure I'm going to go with the Ferodo DS2500 pads, but again what others should I look at? Mintex, EBC (not Greenstuff mind)?

And although I'm wanting good quality parts, I'd rather not break the bank if I can avoid it, so recommendations of good suppliers would be appreciated too

Cheers,

Andrew

I'd recommend some DS2500s. Or maybe some fast road Tarox (Strada?) or maybe Pagid. But would choose Ferodo myself.

Discs: ATE/Brembo OEM discs, around £90 IIRC from dealer/TPS/GSF.

Or I've had good experience with EBC discs (just not their pads!) - ran some normal EBC 312s with DS2500s on the Fabia and it all worked very well. Even when running in 215bhp tune....

http://www.ebcbrakesdirect.com - might have a discount code for you somewhere too, if I can find it. Will drop you a PM if so.

HTH,

Steve

I would suggest you try the Pagid discs, think mine were around £60 and they come painted in silver so that rust isn't an issue. I'm running standard Mintex pads at the moment, and they have done all the trackdays I have been on this last year and coped very well. If not then the DS2500's if you want to spend even more.

Thanks very much Steve, I'd appreciate that! I saw the plain EBC discs on motorsportworld.co.uk for about £80, and the Brembo's elsewhere for around £100.

Thanks :) I think I'm going to stick with the DS2500's, I've been in a few cars now with them fitted and they have been good. It's mainly the discs I was getting confused about :D

Ordered, nevermind! :giggle:

Out of interest, where did you find the Ferodo's the cheapest?

I meant I've ordered the discs only at the moment :) The pads are £153.34 on Motorsport World, which is the only place I can really see that has them. I'd be chuffed if someone could point me to somewhere cheaper!

I've gone for Pagid discs and pads for the last 5 years. Never had a bad word to say about them. Cost nothing, last ages and stop quite happily - never had fade but I don't track it or anything, just occasional spirited B roads.

Bit late now

But i've had Tarox Strada pads with oem discs, and they were great.

And now running Tarox Strada with Tarox G88 Discs, and love them :)

That's a Shifty setup that is Johnny - and I can testify that it works extremely well :D The G88s are quite pricey though, but it's probably the only non-standard finished disc I'd consider....

I got my 2500s as part of the 312 kit I got from Des, so I never bought them new. Thought they'd be available for a bit less than £150 though, although MSW are usually competitive.

I wonder if they're available direct from the Ferodo factory, as they're made in this part of the world, about 20 mins from here

jabba cheaper for the 2500's...p & p im not sure about tho.

You must have caught me eyeing up your brakes at the last meet then... :smirk:

Unfortunately I haven't really got the wedge to be going for that, so I've plumped for the plain EBC front discs. I've also gone for this for the rears, as they don't really do much:

Thanks, will look into that

I'm surprised you could see them through the dirt !

You've experienced how they work anyway :D

I can get EBC RedStuff ceramic compound pads for considerably less than the Ferodo DS2500's, are they any good?

My mate has a set on his TT, he absolutely thrashes his brakes though. Seen him do quite a few trackdays etc but I think he mentioned they had started to break away in chunks. They have been fitted for well over a year though.

May have just found Pagid fast road pads, brand new, for £30 :o Too good to be true? I wasn't thinking of Pagid initially but that's a hell of a saving.

Gotta be worth a punt :)

Just make sure it's a reputable place you've found them at. I'm wary at that price, personally.

Classified ad on another forum...could go either way I suppose :S

I was just worried about some random eBay tat, being sold as Pagid but actually being.....

Might just be someone trying to get rid then.

Hopefully! I'm awaiting a response so we shall see.

HTH,

Same setup here, even the same power lol!

EBC plain discs, DS2500's, HEL lines, 5.1 fluid. Perfect.

Hehe. Didn't go for uprated lines on mine. But good point about decent fluid. It can really make the setup.

I'd go for some RBF600 fluid from Opie emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Cheers for the recommendation on fluid, will look into that! I installed Goodridge lines a couple of years ago, though it may not have been needed.
