Fitting a Turbo Boost Gauge To my mk1 octy vRS

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone!

I've just ordered a Boost Gauge http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220741083755&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

and a dash pod http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370481766032&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I've looked into the threads from RobClubley on pimpmyskoda Which seems helpful.

I want to mount the Gauge in the pod, on the link above, by the pillar close to the windscreen. Im just wondering if anyone has done this and knows where to run the wires & hose up to it? If so is there any pics? Will i need to drill and grommet anything?

Also, with the Gauge ive ordered i guess it needs a constant 12v as its a smoked one so did some research and have seen people run it from the red/black switched live from the light switch. From what i understand it means it will light up whether the lights are on or off? I think I need it on even if the lights are off as its a smoked gauge??

If I do wire it from there, how would i do so? As in, how would i connect it? Crimps?? Complete novice here :(

Also would i be able to do this in a half hour lunch break :p

Any Help is much appreciated

Cheers,

Charlie - Black on Black Octavia vRS

The way i did it was to feed the hose down the fuse panel to the right hand side of the dash. i then poked it through the bonnet release gromit and tapped into the FPR. its not ideal because the hose isnt long enough to run a clean install. (It just stretches accross the engine bay) as for wiring i just used the headlight switch but im not sure about the smoked gauges :wonder: I'll post some pics tonight

How easy did it poke though the bonnet release?

haha not very, I had to use a very thin metal rod and celotaped the pipe to it. I think i've pushed the gromet out completly  its ok tho, i haven't had any wet carpets or water anywhere. if your really carefull you might be ok

Everything arrived today :)

Hopefull fit 007 tonight and when i get the bottle ill fit the boost gauge.

It also has a orange wire aswell as red and black? Any idea what for? Guessin a dimmer or something????

Slightly Off Topic, if you have an Android phone, you can use the Torque app for free, pair it with a £20 Ebay ELM 327 bluetooth ODBII dongle and you have a boost / vacuum guage, in fact 100's of guages and a fault code reader / reset utility.

It's grrrreeeeat :)

Probably a wire to the light circuit. I just had red and black to wire up to my light switch

Here is a few pics of where i got power to gauge

What about the iPhone?

What about the iPhone?

Android only i'm afraid,

Brilliant application, great for fault code reading / clearing, but I have it in my brodit and use it as a boost guage for a giggle, but it also does useful info like intake temps, fuel pressure etc etc

I will make a vid of mine tomorrow, but check this out for now
