Tyre Pressure Monitor (TPM)

Just picked up on 'Honest John' that cars with TPM will need to have the system operating correctly to pass the MOT from next year :o European Union interference again :swear:

Interesting HJ article in that it seems to assume that all TPM systems use individual wheel sensor's / transmitters. Tests on the Skoda TPM system would involve checking that the ABS system is working ok - which is part of MOT tests already.

Seems pretty sensible to check that a safety system of any kind is working!

I guess it is sensible, but I still share that 'EU interference' gorge rising in my throat...

If anyone was worried, I guess that it would be simple to instal a new, plain, button. No-one would ever know, then. And, along that same line of thinking, I hope this does not mean that anyone that has installed decal labels on spare buttons - like the ejector seat one, will fail the MOT because these features are not functioning correctly!:giggle:

I assume that this check will be for the direct tyre pressure type that has sensors in each tyre valve. It would be very easy to check the digital reading of the sensor with the actual.

 I will let you know in three year's time what they say about my Ejector Seat and Missiles!

You could of read it here first.

Ermmm...Yes that clears everything up .

Just been looking at a Fabia II forum article on AlloyGators :wonder: At the bottom of the fitting instructions it stated the following;

"Warning: It is extremely important to monitor your tyre pressures in‐line with your vehicle handbooks recommendations. In

2012 Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) will be introduced and phased in over a 2 year period. As of 1st November

2014 TPMS will be fitted to all new vehicles. Substantial loss of tyre pressure could result in the AlloyGator moving or in

extreme cases it may come out from between the wheel and tyre. We recommend you clean your wheels and AlloyGators

with warm soapy water or a proprietary shampoo. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners and acids as used by some hand car wash

cleaning companies."

Hence why I suppose that it's becoming part of the MOT :wonder:

I need to find out wot an AlloyGator is.

Fordfan's very useful and interesting linked thread also contained this as an item that will be checked during MOT -

'Missing anti pollution equipment, catalyst or DPF.'

That presumably has implications for those that want to, or have, removed the DPF? It seems more and more is being included in testing, and to some extent, the more you have, features-wise, the more at risk you become. I wonder how these vehicles we are driving now will fare in 12 years time?

Oh - I must have been asleep then - hadn't heard of them - just Googled Alloygators. Interesting I spose..

Actually they are interesting. I drive and park around London and they could save my wheels from damage....and possibly tyres.
