Fabia mk1 / octavia comparison mk1 or 2

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've had a mk1 fabia vrs for around 6 months now and, although it is avoid car, I find the feel if it a bit cheap and cheerful. The engine is powerful and economical but very vineyard and noisy, unless I'm on the motorway where it is brilliant. I know the pd engines are not the smoothest.

Also, it hates speed bumps and I find the ride poor.

The other family car is a Volvo v50 and that has such a lovely quality feel to it that the fabia seems plasticky and a bit naff when I get into it.

The question to all octavia owners who have experience of the fabia is does the octavia feel like a better quality vehicle? Is it quieter with the pd engines? Is the ride more composed?

I like the cars skoda produce so I would like to get and octavia but if they feel the same I might look elsewhere. I will try to test one soon but some opinions would be great.

Thanks.

Hi again, I should have said that the fabia was a good car. Darn the predictive typing thing.

mk2 Octavia is miles better than the fabia for ride comfort! to be honest its not fair to compare the two, small hatches never give a good ride compared to a bigger car. Mine is the CR which I think is quieter than the PD lump though I have test driven the mk2 PD vRS whe it came out and it was quieter than the fabia.

Its a bigger car with more sound proofing.

As for the fabia feeling plastic, I'd suggest you try other cars in the class and I will safely say the fabia is alot better than most of them. Try a peugeot/citroen and you will notice a difference.

Volvo's are in a different league to the octavia and priced accordingly.

That explains "vineyard" then!!

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like I should drive one to find out what I think.

my mk2 FL octavia is so much better than my wifes mk1 fabia vrs, much quieter, smoother, better build etc, much better ride, more comfortable and we have volvo v50's at work, i would never swap my octavia for one, they have a very dated interior, noisier engine, worse spec, worse mpg and the ride makes me feel sick, infact i was sick last time i was a passenger in one, my octavia is so much better car, more space everywhere in the car too

Could I just ask what flavour of octavia you have? Is it diesel or petrol? I hear the 1.6 fsi engines are quiet.

Thanks.
