Leather Steering Wheel

Featured Replies

SWMBO now has my old Bora which has a leather MFSW. The car is currently on 80k and the leather has gone very smooth and shiny almost to the point that it is quite slippy to use.

Now i did 65k in the car with no problem so i can only assume that the issue is caused by a womans touch...ie moisturiser!

I have tried Gliptone cleaner and this doesn't seem to make much, if any difference.

Any ideas what can be done or is it that it is just worn out?

Any pics?

I did a search and i've read that you can use Magic Eraser. all it needs is a bit of water. EDIT: Reading more about it though you have to be a bit savvy with it as it can act like a really fine sandpaper, its a bit abrasive. it can be done once safely i guess. hot water and cotton are effective as well.

See this link:

see the right hand side has been cleaned:

Believe it or not toothpaste is good also, just some the size of a pea on a damp cloth. then some leather cream

Just thought i would update on this - I gave it another go with Gliptone leather cleaner today and it seems a lot better. I used a MF cloth instead of a cotton cloth so perhaps this has made the difference. I then gave a quick wipe over with the conditioner. Ill see how that goes after a week of commuting and let you know. I may get one of these magic erasers though.
