Hi guys,

I've been watching the forums for a little while and after much deliberation have decided to go for a new fabia hatchback. So went to the dealer this weekend and test drove one and ive fallen in love! I currently run a 1.0L Yaris which is getting about 49 mpg which is good but its a bit small for me now. This is where the fun begins, i had my heart set on a new greenline as it seems to be cheap to run etc and i am covering around 100 miles a day on a/b roads so seemed perfect, but there is currently a four month build time :( (dont know if i can last that long!). So i was offered a brand new 1.6tdi se instead now it is not as fuel efficient or cheap to run and came in a cappuccino colour (not my favourite but acceptable) but it has little more ummph and i could have it in the next 2 weeks :D. Now there is very little difference in the price etc with the VAT offer i was after some advice off both owners as to which and why they chose what they did and any figures on mpg etc would be handy as i know they wont get whats in the book but would like to know roughly how your getting along and also what sort of build times people have been getting on there Greenlines. And any other comments advice would be handy.

Thanks

Joe

It is 600 cheaper list price , than the greenline . So arev they trying to sell it for the same price? also will it be on 11 plate

hi mate, with the metallic paint which is £425 (?) it would close the price difference and make it such a small difference. (Thats what they told me! and they were trying ever so hard!) Yeah would be on an 11 plate if i wanted to wait for it (but thats only a few weeks away now :D)

I would get it then but ask for a further 200 off especially as you are not that keen on colour ie £ 10108 as they are vat free anyway now

The vat free offer include extras so £ 90 off the paint

Ahh cheers for the advice.

If you are doing 100 miles per day then I would go for the 1.6cr engine. What power output is it...75,90 or 105bhp? Either way, the 1.6 will be much more capable over bigger mileages IMHO! Not saying the 1.2 wouldn't do it ok but the 1.6 will be less tiring.

Its the 90bhp. Yeah thats what im thinking its just risking that little bit of economy and tax etc for that little bit more power though.

I'd go for a 1.6 CR 105 if I were doing big mileage and insisted on diesel. I doubt the real world MPG will greatly differ from the 90hp model and the price difference between the two is negligible, particularly being so cheap with the VAT free deal. Performance is better and it is the one to have really. The 1.2 TDi is a fantasic achievement but I imagine it will be quite wearing to drive over long distances and lacking meaningful shove. I drove a 1.2 TDi 70 Polo a little while back, I hated it. Was noisy and slow though it was a PD and not a CR. Big refinement gains to be had with a CR if its anything like my 2.0 TDi CR 140 Golf though.

Have you driven a 1.2 TSi 105? Admittedly it wont be as fuel efficient but its quicker than the CR 105 and it will be smoother and more fun. I drove a 1.2 85hp (105 wasn't available at the dealers I went to) and was very surprised how good it was. Will be a massive step up from the Yaris.

Regardless of the above I would factory order exactly the car you want (colour and options) and wait, will be worthwhile I assure you. Four months is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Taking a car your not 100% happy about just because it will reduce the wait is really not a good idea; I think you'll regret it.

As I have not driven any other diesel VW Skoda other than the Greenline II 1.2 I cannot comment on the 1.6 - nor would I. I can say I have driven 2 1.2 petrols which were not as good as the Greenline and they were just as loud or louder than my diesel.

I find the Greenline II 75 bhp to have enough power to keep up with the rest of the traffic and do what I want. Looking at the votes I cannot see a Greenline /II owner voting for the 1.6.

My Greenline has done very little mileage at the moment I pile the miles on between March to October and I can already see that the car will return book mpg.

If you choose the 1.6 go for a bigger discount. At the end of the month if a dealer has not hit their target you can haggle for some very good deals, I would ring around other dealers you are prepared to travel too to see what you can get.

I totally agree with ordering the car YOU want, as I found taking a car that wasnt exactly what i wanted always left a very slight niggle at the back of my mind wishing I had the items it didnt have.

Yeh thinking if i go for a 1.6 i wont sacrife anything and get the colour and gadgets i want. Just a toss up between performance and economy although i am impressed [thanks dempsek] that it seems the greenline doesnt seem that bad engine wise too. As i test drove a 1.2 80bh petrol which seemed pokey enough just didnt know what the diesel would do to it.

Hi JMH87,

Genuinely if it has to be a diesel go for the 105ps variant. The 1.2 TSi 105ps is fantasic but I appreciate it wont return anything like the fuel economy of the CR 105ps, so if MPG is a real concern then the 1.6 CR 105ps will be the one to have.

I think you should go and drive a CR 105ps model just to make your mind up. I think you'll find the 90ps version somewhat lacking after driving the 105ps model. It's considerably quicker and punchier than the 1.2 TDi and will still return 50/60mpg nearly all the time. The 90ps model is slightly detuned just to return a few extra MPG's, probably makes it less drivable as a result.

I also highly recommend taking advantage of the Elegance spec level, certainly whilst the VAT deal is going. For the extra £500 or so over an SE spec car you get a number of nice items of standard kit (Climate Control, Cruise Control, Parking Sensors, Leather Wheel, Door protectors, lovely 16" Comet alloys, armrest...think thats everything!) for me it would be a no brainer.

Of course it's entirely your choice but I feel I should say my piece. I'm sure many others here will agree with me what a nice little car the 105ps Elegance would be!

No worries, a 1.6 CR 105 Elegance will be a really tidy little motor! Will you go 105ps?
