Is the VRS widely available

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've been lurking for a bit but decided to sign up and make a post.

I've been considering getting a new car since Christmas, but as i'm not really a car person, i've not been decisive enough to decide on a specific model. The more I see and read about the VRS, the more I like the sound of it. I've seen on here people write about build times, and I was wondering if I don't want any specific additions, and just the base model if they are hard to get hold of? I travel a lot with work and could go anywhere in the UK to get one. I've not been for a test drive yet through fear of loving it and not being able to wait 10-20 weeks for one! Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hi Slay3r,

They are all factory order only. Waiting time at the end of Jan was 17-23 weeks. We ordered our vRS estate on 30th Jan and its not due to arrive until 1st week of June so a good 4 month wait.

Most dealers are running demo vehicles and may have a brand new one in the showroom but you'll have to compromise on colour and spec by going for one of those. We were after an estate which are much rarer so we had no option but to factory order, if you're after a hatch you'll no doubt have more luck picking up a dealer car.

Personally I think you should drive one as you may not like it. If you do (which is very likely!) i'd just order one to the exact colour and spec you want and wait, it'll be something to look forward to! I'd recommend keeping the spec as simple as possible as the car is very well equiped anyway. I know alot of people are specing the living daylights out of them because of the savings being made on the VAT deal, each to their own but I dont think the car warrants it, if you're buying the car on HP you'll get nothing back by doing so at trade in time.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

It would be a hatch that i'm looking for, colour and spec doesn't really bother me too much. Its the fact it has 5 doors/speed that has drawn me towards it, and VAT Free makes it an affordable option.

I guess the best bet is to just call around some local dealers and see whats available.

If your that flexible then I would think that there is quite a good possibility you could get one faster as there are always ones that people decide to cancel etc. Im pretty sure someone on here got a new one in a few weeks. I decided not to wait and got an ex demo from my local dealer. Worked out about the same as Vat free with all the extras it had.

Just found the thread but its not a vRS so might not be as quick for vRS

I was fortunate that the right coloured car was actually sat in my local dealers showroom. In reality i think they may have been pleased to move it on though as i get the feeling it is not to everyones but at the end of the day, it is what i want. Even with the delay to wait for an 11 plate i have only had to wait 26 days to take delivery (certainly beats the 17 weeks if i ordered one). I have had to forego cruise control, but after that there really isn't much nore you could add in my opinion. Couple that with the fact that it is costing me less than the std base car (less VAT even with the met paint, white roof and alloys) plus the delivey charges ony sweetened the deal.

My dealer did tell me that there a few of the rally liveried versions knocking around (i think there was a total run of 500 of these) that celebrated Skoda winning the IRC last year if you can live with the look, and as has been said elsewhere here, try your dealer to see what is available natinally for immediate delivery.

Only 7 days to go now till i get mine.

If you fancy the car, you could get a demo or a showroom model instantly. I believe all dealers have the Demo and most seem to have a showroom model (at least the 2 i visited did). This would appear to be your best route.

Let us know how you get on.

The wife's was sat in the showroom, not a bad spec, persuaded them I wanted a test drive, bartered a price and bought.

Some good responses here guys thanks. I've got a few days off next week in York so going to go there and take it for a test drive I think, and see whats available.

I'm wondering if any of them will want to shift a 60 plate demo model if the 11's are coming up. This is my first time of buying a car so still a bit new to it all!

Mine was a demo as well mate . Loved the car as soon as I drove it. From what I've seen from forum posts, people who had demo's haven't had any problems. Maybe dealers fixed any problems while they had them :giggle:

Ordered ours late July

Delivered Early November

The demo car had the same spec but they only just got it, so wouldnt sell it

I went into the dealers with a silver one in mind.

I was told about the 4-6 month wait, but the Blue one sitting behind me in the dealers had almost the same spec. so I got that one instead, drove it away 7 days later.

I think the showroom ones usually have a decent spec, this one had Cruise, heated seats, black roof, black wheels, 3 spoke, steering wheel with phone prep. Climate control,

The things I compromised on where Air con, arm rest, phone prep and colour.

Do drive one, the DSG is not to everyone's taste. Also despite the book figures, bear in mind average fuel consumption in the real world seems to be mid-30s mpg, not bad for performance though. Let us know how you get on!

I was told 8 - 12 weeks when I enquired at the weekend for a factory order, thought it might be dealer BS

Hey guys, went to the Aberdeen dealership yesterday, told me 'its a 4-6 month wait whether you come to us or go to any other branch'. Enquired about the 60 plate demo model they had, it wasn't well kept, no metallic paint or anything and they wanted £14,100 for it. Weren't willing to budge on price so walked away. In York from Wednesday so i'll try the DM Keith if I get chance see what they say

I was out on Friday Gordon Lamb told me they where quoting 5 months for an estate, yet DMKeith in Hudds showed me a fax from Skoda with every models expected lead times and it said 10 weeks!! I don't think Skoda or their dealers have a clue tbh. Like someone else said, (and from previous experience) your order goes into the computer, enters a black hole and who knows when or what will actually come out. (Of the 3 factory orders I have ever bought from Skoda not one as been the exact spec I ordered)

That price is outrageous (as are the ones being advertised on Autotrader but i guess they were pre 'No VAT' deal) inmo 'if' you can wait for a factory order. Pick mine up on wednesday, for £13400 otr, with met paint, white roof and white alloys. Admittedly, no other toys apart from those included as standard as it is the car on display in the showroom (locked up since i agreed to purchase it) .
