VW Passat R36

Featured Replies

Basic saloon list price brand new, a smidge under £31 grand.

An 09 fully loaded saloon with 20k miles, £19,995. Ouch!

Of course the estate is the one to have, looks a million times cooler if you can live with the petroleum prices, and £425 duty to the government gawd bless em.

Passat R36

With fuel prices going up the way they are, give it another 6 months and I think cars like the R36 will be worth even less.

Perfect if you're a low mileage driver and you can live with that tax and fuel bill.

Yup I dread to think what the Beemer will be worth in 2 years time when swmbo let's me trade it in.

Even big diesels are taking massive hits, the likes of Audi A8, BMW7 and Merc S class are all crashing in terms of value. You just have to search on Merc S class 320 cdi to find a relative bargain.

Lovely motor and a decent price drop. But unfortunately you're still not buying at the bottom of the fall! It'll still continue to de-value at an alarming rate.

Or you could go for the Q-car option....

Oooh, didn't actually know they offered it in the CC as well!

0-60 5.6 seconds

I remember a chap trying to part ex a W8 Passat. Even we were embarrassed by the token offer we had to make him. It was something in the 30% mark even thought the car was only around 3 years old :o

Yep, the previous shape W8 is an even better example really! I just think of it as such a random model for VW to produce. Might work well in an Arab state, where fuel is dirt cheap - but here? :S

And the previous shape Passat wasn't even remotely sporty either - at least this time round the range has a bit of something about it, and the R36 is a nice range topper.

Would love one in estate form.... but only with a fuel card ;)

Suppose we'll have to wait for a few more brave souls to buy SuperbII 3.6s hey, before we have the same conversation about those :D

And those tailpipes look amusing, yet so incongruous with the rest of the car.... emoticon-0143-smirk.gif

I guess at £3k-ish he might sell it, but they are super hard to shift. That daft V6 Beetle was the same. We couldn't get an underwrite on one, anywhere in Britain!! I am glad people build them though :)

Wow that is a lot of car for the money....did they only come in a auto? That interior is hideous too though...

Amusing interior, yes! 99% sure they were auto only. Not even particular quick though. 285bhp the 4.0W8 was originally. Pretty sure it was between 8 and 8.5 to 60 :o

And it does something daft like 21mpg combined....

one of the directors where I used to work bought a brand new BMW 745L and paid 60k for it on a J plate (so 91,92). Didn't too a lot of miles in it, but when he traded it back in with BMW (same dealer, he was buying a new P plated 540, so 4 years later) they gave him 7grand for the 7 series! :o

Still I think he could afford the loss: the beemer was his proper car, he bought himself a new Ferrari 360 Modena as a toy!

As the above example shows, there are people out there for which depreciation is a clearly not an issue.

Obviously an R36 Passat is just the car for them :D

They were quicker than that, Steve. Somewhere in the 6.5 second mark I believe. But the sound . . . . beats the socks of the 6 pot Passats!

An R36 estate would be my car of choice if I had the money . . . now how did that Skoda advert go again, "practical and exciting" . . . better applied to the R36 than anything under the green arrow I think!

That 1st estate is cheating, it says cat d in the small print! Still a bargain for someone though.

I am most surprised to see the 3.6 CC also. I did not realise they did one. So were agreed, if we all have a substantial pay rise and loose a few marbles, an R36 estate, or a CC 3.6 saloon?

I really quite like the CC. Feels and looks a bit more special than the std saloon and estate too. So I think that would swing it.

The estate is undoubtedly a better all-rounder though...

I must have mis-read Rob. As you say, looked up on Carfolio and lists a 0-100Km/h at 6.5s.

312g CO2 though! Amusing. Thankfully as it's between 2001 and 2006, it doesn't attract massively stupid tax - *just* £245/yr.

'Practical and exciting' might apply to the Superb 3.6? Although one could argue that a vRS lower down the ranks fills that brief a bit better? :smirk:

If I had an oil business:

Seems a nice example, quite cheap to buy as well :)
