Laptop problem

Featured Replies

Hi all :)

I'm having a wee panic!!....i stuck a memory stick into my machine to check out my holiday snaps and when i removed it all the icons on my desktop dissapeared :( I rang my IT guy who suggested that i do a restore to a previous date, this hasnt worked and he is suggesting that when he gets time later today that a windows reinstall is what to do.....is there anything that can be done without having to go down that road as im sure il loose all that was on my desktop to start with...most of which is inportant for my work.

Any help greatly appreciated

Cheers

Kit

Have you got the Start bar?

If so then try right clicking on the desktop and then View, the check that 'Show Desktop Icons' is ticked. If Windows is 'working' and you are only missing the desktop icons i can see no reason why a re-install is required.

Also let us know what version of Windows you are running.

Cant seem to get the list of desktop icons from a list back onto the desktop its self...any ideas?

From a quick play on my XP Pro VM:

Right-click the desktop, "Arrange Icons By > Show Desktop Icons" to enable/disable the icons.

Right-click the taskbar, "Toolbars > Desktop" to enable/disable the menu.

Hope that helps!
