Which Oil

Featured Replies

I am going to do a DIY oil change on my 2.0 Octavia having acquired a PELA pump but which oil do I use? I know it must be VW 507 spec. but what make is best? Has anyone tried Millers?

I have never used Millers myself but they have a good reputation,But any oil that has VAG 504.00/507.00 on the label will be okay, I prefer major brands such as Castrol Edge, Mobil 1,or Shell Helix.

I used millers for years on older cars and have used it for PD cars too. Just make sure you get the correct VW507 on the bottle and you'll be fine

I am most interested with reference to VW 507 Spec oil as to "what oil is best"

Obversely price is always a consideration, at least for most people, but other than checking that it is an oil conforming to

VW 507 Spec. what else should/can we do to ensure "what oil is best"

So then what criteria is used to make judgement as to what is best. Best for what/when/application, and how do we Joe Public

understand and judge how this should be carried out.

Just a thought - perhaps some expert can throw some light on the subject.

4 litres of Castrol Edge for about £30 in Asda should do you about fine I reckon. Any good brand of oil that conforms to VW504.00/507.00 will do fine.

I always use Castrol Edge 5W30.
