Octavia 2.0lt/tdi/140ps

Featured Replies

Hi all Skoda drivers.

My first post but I have enjoyed useful information and advice from the forum

before now; thank you. My Octavia 2.0lt/tdi/140ps has done 34k+ and has been almost

4 years on the road.

My Skoda agent contacted me and advised that the cam belt should now be changed, for

which he would be pleased to slim down my wallet by £500; water pump replacement

included.

'Mr Clutch' tells me that he will do the same work for £380(pump with metal impeller)

This price includes the £304 for the twin cam belt.

In today's 'get rich quick culture' Mr Clutch's price might be a fair one.

My question is, should I nip along to Mr Clutch quickly?

And the query is, does the Octavia have a twin cam belt?

Happy motoring and may all your MOT's, insurances, services, tyre changes, etc. etc.

be many, many miles ahead.

Regards

Lojong

Hi and welcome aboard.

Hello and thanks John

What ever you do, do not go to mr clutch for a cambelt change. They cannot even get clutch changes right, let alone something important like a cambelt.

The cambelt change interval is 80K or 4 years, whichever occurs first, since its not just mileage that wears a belt out, but the ageing process.

Find a decent independent to do the work and should be a lot cheaper than the dealer price.

The 2.0PD 140 is a DOHC engine, but has only a single cambelt, and its critical that both cams and fuel pump are locked whilst the belt is changed otherwise you'll end up witth all kinds of running issues.

oh, and welcome to Briskoda.

Hi mannyo

Thank you for your 'welcome' and for the tip-off re. Mr Clutch; they must be employing :p:doh::|:giggle: to change cam belts and clutches.

I shall hunt about and see if I can find a local independent installer for the job but maybe easier said than done in the light of your Mr Clutch experience.

Thanks also for the tech' info.

Lojong
