Service Indicator

Featured Replies

My car is supposedly on variable servicing, about a week ago an indicator appeared when I switched the ignition on telling me 2500 next to the spanner symbol, it fell to 2300 and I was happy that I could nurture piggy bank for a while yet before the service needed booking. This morning the distance has gone and I get a chime and a spanner symbol when I turn the ignition on. Car was serviced about a year ago and has done 9000 miles since. Don't have maxidot but followed procedure to check distance to next service and I get 0.00 next to the spanner and a little clock face, which I presume means do it now.

My instinct tells me that that all means that car thought it had 2300 miles to go before service but this morning a date based counter took over and told me that the service is due immediately.

I did ask the dealer who said that, since mileage was quite low since last service they had probably reset it on wrong basis after the last service and it likely doesn't actually need servicing yet.

hmmm.. sometimes I think I preferred the old fashioned system of 6 or 12 months or miles, anyway as the car is nearly 3 years old and I am looking at extended warranty plans etc I don't want to risk being accused of not following recommended service intervals. Instinct tells me I should take it to dealer to get them to check the service status so there is no question of me being negligent.

Not sure whether I have framed a question here or not, think I am looking for shared knowledge and advice on what to do... I don't want to waste money on the service if is too early, as suspected, but I can't really see how I can be sure of that...
