Key fob battery failure

Featured Replies

This is a little strange.

Whilst working away from home last week, my key fob suddenly stopped unlocking the car. I immediately suspected the fob battery, however the locking and boot opening buttons still worked so I wasn't so sure.

Being away I didn't have access to my spare key, and I didn't want to mess about with the fob in case the immobiliser stopped working :o So I struggled along unlocking the car with the key (and even occasionally remembering to put the key in the ignition before the alarm went off) until a couple of days later when the other buttons stopped working too.

When I got back I tried the second key (fob) and it worked perfectly so the problem obviously was the battery (and it is now replaced thanks to the useful disassembly thread found elsewhere on the forum).

Question is, how come the unlocking failed first? Does the fob draw more power to unlock the car than lock it? :wonder:

iirc it is a low battery warning where it will only unlock after pressing twice. This is how i usually know that the battery needs changing.

Sounds good, but that didn't happen for me - worked fine in the morning, didn't work the same evening (despite pressing the button multiple times...).

Weird! Think it also mentions it in the manual...perhaps yours is slightly dodgy!
