Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer

Featured Replies

Ok so I might be in the market to replace the 2 Fabia Estates I've got at work. Decided to check out the competition, ie a small estate car.

Where to start? This car is so terrible it's not even funny.

Steering: too light, too sharp. No feel. A car like this doesn't need a silly quick rack.

Clutch is hateful and on some sort of offset spring. The action starts off light, firms up and then goes light. Totally at odds with a smooth drive.

Engine: 110hp diesel. Gutless, gruff. Harsh

Seats: Hard. Couldn't get comfortable. Once I'd got the seat set to depress the clutch comfortably with a slightly bent leg, I found I was too close to the wheel.

Gearbox: 6 speeder, feels like it has bungee cords instead of cables or rods. BOING! Too rubbery.

Interior: cheap scratchy plastics on the door cards and dash.

I drove it from Watford to North London and back, and my plan was to go to Wantage in Oxfordshire in it, but I got the arse with it and stopped in Watford to pick up my usual work hack to do the Wantage and back journey!

It's awful, I hope the higher spec models are nicer, or Vauxhall have had a load of people over.

Nasty. Please avoid :) :( hahaha

(hopefully the pic works)

Yep, I sympathise with you. Terrible things, terrible spec. Chavs love them because of all the Irmscher tat that can be added at the dealer and there's a huge aftermarket for them. They are so basic and spartan inside it is unreal.

I despise Astras more than you'd ever know

:lol

This one has bluetooth, AC and a DAB tuner. The DAB is the one redeeming feature.

But apart from that it's a duffer. Nasty.

Had one on hire from Avis for a week with Work , was glad to give it back , seats are lousy , mega back pain every day ,looks nice everything else waste of time

And the new Astra was supposed to be a step forward! Not particularly cheap either; saw a Sports Tourer reviewed and it was 22k. OK, so many might not pay list for Vauxhalls but seriously....

Quite like the look of them, and the new Insignia too - but still not a particular fan of the brand. And especially not after reviews like that....

Had an Insomnia too... Wasn't as bad.

Epic engine, like most Poxhaulls.

The Monde 2.0 TDCI Zetec I had was excellent.

I've always liked the Mondeo. Not a massive fan of the current design and shape though. Plus it seems to be MASSIVE these days. As if they're trying to re-live the Granada glory days :D

Drives well, decent engine, interior put together well.

Can i add the Superb Estate to this?

Length (mm): 4838 (longer than a Mondeo)

Width (mm): 1817

Height (mm): 1510

Clear height (mm): 141

Wheel base (mm): 2761

Kerb Weight: 1654 kg (for my model, the 170 TDi 4x4)

Kerb Weight: 1577 kg for 2.0 170 TDi Manual

Yep, Longer and heavier than a Mondeo....

Had a "new shape" Corsa, just after they came out for the wife for 7 months... it was off the road for over 7 weeks (1.3 CDTi 90bph SXi) recalled 4 times, and engine management failed on month 7 - with 8,000 miles on the clock, i got rid of it.

Oh by the way, the Pox was taken away today, thank feck.

Hooray!

  • 4 weeks later...

Yeah new astra is a huge step down in terms of interior materials quality compared to the previous one. Just feel the dash clock cowling, rock hard cheap plastic on the new one, soft rubber on the old one. Door cards, rock hard plastic, soft (all the way down) on the old astra H. Even 30K Audis have hard door cards at the bottom, but the Astra H (previous shape) was over specced in material quality. It had to be after the MK4 Golf gave the Astra G a kicking. Now they have gone back to cost cutting.
