Drop Link replacement

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

Just a quick question. After 3rd variable service today they stuck down excessive movement in front drop links.

I am assuming that this is a well easy fix on a TDI VRS. Checked the price of parts and they are easily under £50 so would like to do the job myself to save having to pay £115 to the stealers. Now the car is nearly 4 years old, probably time i got my hands dirty.

Any advice or average times for carrying out this job?

Thanks in advance.

Yea fella nothing to worry about really just to remove the nut off the droplink you need to put an allen key into the centre of the thread of the bolt (you will see what i mean from looking at the new droplink, it has a hollow section) and then hold that tight while undoing the bolt. If it does break when taking it off (one of mine sheered the end of the bolt off lol) then get a mole grips and clamp on the othe side of the rubber gaiter and that will be fine. Do one at a time and you will be fine and watch the skin on the knuckles :)

Cheers, there is no way i am going to be ripped off by skoda to do something like that. They also wanted £26 to replace a blocked rear washer jet!

Trying to save some cash as its due a cambelt and a few other bits in June. need to start saving some pennies.

Thanks again.

Its not an allen key, but a multi spline bit that you need for the inner part of the link. Make sure you also replace the nuts too as they are only a few quid. I always wire brush the visible threads on the old links to remove all the crust then soak with some WD or similar. The nuts can be a pain to remove.
