So the clutch gremlin is back... :(

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

again a "small" problem with my RS, in the last two days the "sticky clutch" phenomenon became from a "happens here and there" to a constant issue :(

So to repeat again, when stationary, and in gear (be it, first, second or whichever), clutch pedal fully pressed down; it just so happens that the clutch is slightly depressed and the engine and gearbox are connected, so the whole car creeps forward just a bit, and the engine becomes noisier because of the extra load.

To eliminate the creep, one has to quickly let go of the clutch pedal just a bit, and press it down quickly again, this somehow jerks something and releases the clutch finally. If not done, it is very hard to change from 1st gear to neutral eg.

In my country, the forums and "those in the know" are full of people who, either know about the problem but won't tell you what it is, or they paid too much for the repair and then won't tell you either, most unfortunate for everyone... :dull: What I got in the answers is from a faulty "thing" in the gearbox, to a "clutch connector", or the clutch cylinder... The expense is from 40~400 euros lol.

So if anyone had similar problems, and knows about this reoccuring issue on the RS Fabias, I would very much appreciate the help in identifying the problem, as it is quite hard to explain it to a "regular mechanic" even if he sees the problem himself.

Thanks in advance :)

First step is to replace the brake fluid and bleed the clutch (shares the same fluid as brakes). If problem persists, replace clutch master cylinder, if still faulty gearbox off and inspect clutch slave cylinder (release bearing) and input shaft splines for wear or distortion, and clutch plate center bore for the same.
