Hi all

Ive started to remove the gearbox in my R reg felica pickup today to change the clutch and the input shaft seal and im stuck :(

How do i get the gearbox off of the engine

I have undone all the nuts and bolts I can see apart from one next to the oil filter

How the hell do i get that one undone as i can't get a socket or ring spanner on it

Any help appreciated

on the diesels there is a cast iron adaptor plate bolted to the gearbox, you do not need to unbolt the adaptor plate from the gearbox, just undo the bolts holding the adaptor plate to the engine then it should come out fairly easy, also removing the starter motor can help too

yes you need to undo the 2 by the oil filter,

I had to remove the oil cooler to get onto the bolt in the end

I must admit it probably the hardet clutch ive ever changed lol

Do you have to take out the engine,gearbox unit or can you get the gearbox of whilst leaving the engine in situ ??

you leave the engine in situ, but you need something to support the engine like a hoist or a support bar to hold the engine in place
