Engine swap!?

Featured Replies

Does anybody know if the engine in a 130pd will mate to the transmission on a 1.8T 4X4?

Long shot!

im not expecting them too but i thought id ask?

Im still forging ahaed with building my suped up 130pd 4x4 VRS!

Ive got the VRS bit on a diesel and now im looking at the 4x4 system before i go for more power upgrades!

My intial plan was to get a LHD 4x4 105bhp PD from Europe and swap the engines and the VRS bit across along with a RHD conversion, but i cant help thinking there is some way i could use a 4x4 1.8T shell which would mean swaping all the fuel system over but im sure it would be esier if it could be done.

Sounds awfully complicated, petrol and diesels have totally different gear ratios for a start,

Dont know if the 4x4 will fit never seen under a 4x4 Octavia so dont know if the 2 and 4 wheel drive share the same floor pan or not, altho i think the spare wheel well on my vrs would mean you couldn't fit a rear diff in

Wasnt jjust going to use the engine but the transmission from the PD aswell!

Obviously the gear ratios are different!

And yes the 4x4 floor plan is totally different, i think ill stick with my original idea of using a european 4x4 PD

why?

why?

What?

Seems like a good project for you m8, do you mean you want to know if the diesel gearbox will fit the 4x4 system? Or if the 1.8t Gearbox will fit the diesel engine??

If there is a way of getting the diesel engine and gearbox to mate with the 4x4 system, if the transfer box will fit the diesel 6 speed!?

why are you planning on doing it? what's the plan?

If you did swap a petrol engine for a diesel you would have to change the suspension too.

Ive got a pd130 with all the VRS bits on!

Interior, wheels, front bumper, spoiler and so on.

Its been remapped once and its got Porsche 4 pots but i want it 4x4 before i go for highbreed turbo , FM intercooler and then go for as much power as i can safly get!

Which after talking to Jabbasport and Awesome should be about 260 bhp!

But like i say i want it 4x4 and the easyiest way of doing it is to get a european 4x4105 PD and swap the engine over along with all the VRS bits, brakes coilovets and the like

Rear coil overs will be different on a 4x4 m8. The 4x4 has a totally different rear suspension set up to a FWD

Might be worth phoning a gearbox specialist up and aking what the differences are on the gearboxes.Or does the haynes manual have any info? Think converting a LHD car to RHD would be alot more hastle that dropping an engine, box and fuel system into a petrol shell.

Yeah i know the suspension on the 4x4 is different, thats not a problem well nothing £500 wont sort out lol

I pesumed that i coulnt put a diesel engine in a petrol car wothout changing the whole fuel system!!!?

Plus i would need to know if the diesel box would mate to the car and the transmission and also that the transfer box would fit with everything.

Converting lhd to rhd is no hassle, done it before a few times on BMW s

And tobe honest id probably leave it a left hooker!
