Help - how to turn off auto lighting

Featured Replies

I have a 2006 Octy without maxidot. Is there anyway of turning off the auto lights? When I unlock my car in the dark in the morning it illuminates my neighbours house and the same at night when I lock the doors? I think they are called convenience lights or welcome home lights or something like that! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A member with VCDS can do it for you, or your dealer.

Leaving home is when unlocking, coming home is...well you get the idea :giggle:

Thanks Skodaphile and Mike. Sorry for all the questions but is VCDS a device that you can plug into the engine to change the settings of the car? If so, I presume by your posts that some members have a VCDS and will be able to do this for you, I presume for a cost? Is there anyway of finding such a member? If not I will phone up my local dealer and see how much this costs. Or I could just reverse my car on the drive!!

Don't they only work when the light switch is left in the auto position? If you switch the lights off, they shouldn't come on....That's what happens in my Yeti anyway.

Hi Rockhopper, I have just checked and I do not have auto lighting.

Ok. I did have an L&K before which had auto everything apart from Xenons. My Snow Monster has auto everything as well.

Thanks again Mike. I will try messaging fellow members regarding VCDS. In the meantime, if there are any members reading this post in the Birmingham area with VCDS that can assist with turning off my coming / leaving home lights, I would be grateful if you could PM me.

Don't instantly dismiss your dealer.

Did you buy the car from your local Skoda dealer?

Mine was happy to make a few changes to my Octavia for me free of charge as I bought the car from them a year previously.

(Activate second rear fog light, auto lock at 15mph, coming/leaving home - off and one press of the key fob - all doors unlocked).

They weren't able to activate the cornering front fog lights though :(

I second this comment. My car does have Maxidot but it wouldn't activate the DRL (Daylight Running Lights) which are present on my Octavia Elegance. I had a very generous offer of help from a Forum member with VCDS but in the event after asking the supplying dealer he did the software upgrade for free. It now works perfectly.

(By the way, agree with the OP on coming home/leaving home lights. I too was dazzling the other side of the street so switched them off - via Maxidot in my case.)

Thanks Silver and Colsay, unfortunately I did not buy my Octy from a Skoda dealer otherwise I'd be sure to take your advice! I am going to PM a fellow Briskodian close to where I live who has VCDS and see if he / she can help me turn these lights off!

I have had a very kind offer from a VCDS owner that is passing Birmingham this weekend to help me disable my coming home and leaving home lights. He has never done this before and is asking for the method to do this. Does anyone have a step by step guide to how this is done using VCDS?

Bump. :D
